"Second floor, Hercules Hall?" Melrose pursed her lips trying to remember the name on the door next to hers. She had yet to meet her roommate, their entrances and exits out of the dorm room were always off cue. She knew it started with an "L". Lyrica, maybe? No. Lyra had to be it. Melrose grinned, finally getting to meet her mystery roomie. "Lyra! Yes! It's a pleasure to meet you. Finally." Melrose gave a small laugh while pulling up a chair to the table.

"Yes! Very nice to meet you! Sorry I wasn't in the room when you set up," Lyra laughed a little uneasy, "I'm late to bed early to rise kind of girl.." she said. She stood up from her seat and pushed in her chair. "Well I guess I'm up, talk to you guys soon," she said. She walked over to the DJ and looked through the song choice, trying to decide what Weezer song to do.

Returning from the girls table he had another number scrawled across his forehead. "Sigh, Did she have to write it on my head?" Jamie muttered to himself wearily.

"Don't worry about it. I'm always running in and out of there really quick." Melrose cringed. That sounded far too ridiculous and cheesy for her taste, but it wasn't like Lyra knew her gift to get it. Besides, Lyra seemed extremely nice to even care. By the time Melrose figured it out though, her roomie had floated off to choose her karaoke song.

"Good luck", she said to Lyra then looked up and saw Jamie. She tried to contain her laughter and failed,"Poor Jamie", she said, in between paroxysms of giggles.

Melrose looked up at the guy who had previously just sung. He seemed troubled by the new found popularity, which she didn't entirely make a connection in understanding with. But then again, she really had no idea who he was. "Nice phonebook. You sing often? You must've knocked their socks off." she joked, trying to start off on a right foot with him.

Lyra nodded at the song pick. She walked on stage and took the mic from the stand- no, she would keep the mic on the stand for the sake of the song, "um, apologizes to my friend Jamie," she said, pointing to the sharpie-stained boys, "applause for him, he did great," Lyra said and there were claps from the audience, "but anyways, apologies because it might be a little too... somber for you?"
She nodded to the DJ who started to play the track. Light, lullaby-esque guitar chords, tambourine and shakers, it was quiet. Not upbeat like Jamie's previous song. "Heart Song" by Weezer was not upbeat, nor was it a single, but it was nice and different. "Gordon Lightfoot sang a song about a boat that sank in the lake at the break of the morn'..." Lyra began to sing. Her voice was quiet but loud enough to hear. The tempo was slow but it set the mood for something mellow. [data]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=58cRl7Kiwds "Heart Song"

"Eh It comes with my power, Singing is a part of me, I don't think I could live without it." Jamie replied looking at her smiling as he rubbed at hiss forehead removing almost none of the sharpie but succeeding in coloring his forehead red. Jamie looked up as he heard his name called and nodded slowly at Lyra.

She laughed lightly at Jamie, then turned her attention to Lyra, good song, but total mood killer.

"Cool. Here, I could help if that's bothering you." Melrose surprised herself for taking such a big leap. She grabbed the napkin on the counter, dunked it in the pitcher full of water on the table, and walked over to the sharpied boy. "It might hurt a bit, but this should do the trick." She began a back and forth motion across his forehead and without much effort, sped up the scrubbing to super speed. Back and forth and back and forth and back and forth. Her arm becoming a blur from the speed it traveled at. When she was done, the sharpie marks were gone. All clean! Melrose smiled, proud it worked, proud she had gotten to use her powers, and proud she stepped out of her usual social comfort zone. She barely knew this guy and here she was rubbing sharpie off his head. Nice job, Melrose. 10 points. "There. All clean!" she beamed at him.

"These are my heart songs, they never feel wrong," Lyra sang, her voice ringing with her vibrato. Her voice needed a switch, a change of tune. Change her range, her voice volume. Just as Jamie, it was critical to her power, especially since her power effected her voice directly. "Heart Song" was a great song, with little puns with bands and artists. Near the end, the song started to build up, a stronger guitar, louder instruments, and Lyra's voice got stronger and louder, tapping her foot and shaking her head to emphasize the passion. "Back in 1991 I wasn't having any fun , until my roommate said c'mon and put a record on..." The last minute of the song was stronger and louder, and she did a spin at the final chorus. The song went silent and so did Lyra. "Thank you," Lyra spoke into the microphone and bowed.

"Yeah, you got it." she nodded returning his smile.
Melrose turned her head from Jamie to Lyra on stage. Geez, talk about a beautiful voice. Melrose was indeed impressed. She clapped. Loudly. The fact that was her roommate made her rather proud. Almost like a mom at some ballet recital. She almost felt like leaning over to the table next to them and saying, "Yeah. That's my roomie. Great isn't she?"

She cheered for Lyra and clapped but then turned to Melrose,"You might want to be a bit careful with that outside of school", she advised her, referring to her superfast actions, she was new so maybe she didn't know.
