Cora sat up in bed, hearing the words of Carson ring in her ears. At first she thought that her voices where up and talking, but it soon came clear to her that she would have to go to school.
The red numbers proclaimed the fact that it was five thirty on the nose. Cora threw off her covers, feeling refreshed somehow, and stood, looking at Carson who was happily munching on cold pizza.
"Wow," Cora said as she quickly observed. "Carson, are you doing well with Jamie now? Are things better?" she asked, grabbing a plastic bowl and spoon and then reaching for the Cinnamon Toast Crunch as Carson slid out the door. She filled it nearly half-way with the cereal, and them one-forth milk. Cora dipped the spoon in the bowl and began to eat, waiting for Carson to answer.

Carson, of course, was mute.
This made Cora frustrated, but she did not show it on her face. Instead, she muttered an indifferent, "Alright then," before setting down her finished bowl with the sugary milk still in it. She quickly snatched it again, dumping it into the bathroom sink, then chucking it in the trash with the spoon. She took another cup, however, pored some more milk, and drank the untainted dairy happily.
When she was done, she disposed of the cup and turned to her wardrobe. She took a white blouse and a floral skirt of their hangers and slid them on with a pair of flip-flops.
Cora straightened her aquamarine necklace on her neck, then swiftly brushed her hair into a neat French braid. She wiggles her toes in her shoes before grabbing her key necklace, which she had changed into a bracelet, and slipping it on her wrist with her watch. She slipped on her tote bag and headed out the door into the sunny skies.

Carson rushed in, throwing open the door and slamming it behind her. She threw herself down onto her bed, face-planting into the pillow and burying herself beneath the sheets. Her muffled sobs could just barely be heard. She felt her tears beginning to soak through the pillowcase, and she knew her makeup would wipe off onto it as well. But she didn't care. It didn't matter. She felt horrible. This was all too much. "I liked you... I really did Jamie..." She whispered into the pillow between sobs. Utterly reminding me of this song... www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gWPASykm3g

Cora awoke later than normal. It didn't matter, she was always early anyway. Cora got up, threw on a pair of jeans and a tank top, shoved a bagel down her throat, and grabbed her bag. She ran a brush through her hair and ran out the door.

Carson entered her room. She'd headed straight toward Houdini Hall when classes ended for the day. She flopped down on her bed, making a soft whimpering noise as she did so. Normally she'd go take a stroll around town or go get a coffee by herself after school, but lately, she'd been staying in her dorm other than when she needed to go to class. She was still depressed. It was just one boy... she needed to get over it and move on. But this wasn't like all the other times she'd been rejected or dumped; this was a strangely different feeling. This wasn't the regular "mope for a few days then be over him" deal, this was a sharp pain that wasn't seeming to fade with time. Carson sighed and made her way to the mini-fridge to grab a soda. She gently pulled the tab and took a sip. She couldn't drown her troubles in fizzy drink, either.

Cora entered her room, throwing down her things and grabbing a bottle of iced tea before noticing Carson, who was wallowing face down of her bed, her covers thrown uncomfortably under her body. Cora guessed this had to do with Jamie. Cora made her way over to the bed, plopping on her own bed before she spoke. "What happened, Carson?" she asked, twisting the cap, hearing the snapping noise as she sucked a gulp of the tea down her throat.

"It's none of your business..." Carson sighed in a slightly aggravated, but not quite rude tone of voice. She took another sip of her soda, frowning after she swallowed and the carbonated sugar water had still failed to take the edge off of the pain she felt within her heart.

Cora rolled her eyes. "Fine, I'll just ask Jamie," she said. "But, really, it is. If it is about Jamie, and he, say, turned you down, I could make you pain free. You wouldn't have to deal with the crumbs of your broken heart," Cora offered, not letting the tone of Carson's voice get to her.

"Cora," Carson sighed. "I don't want you to force anyone to fall in love with me or say yes... I'd rather deal with the pain of rejection than be in a relationship where my significant other is being manipulated to love me..." She turned to gaze out the window at the sunny California skies.

Cora sighed. "I'm really beginning to hate my power. I'm probably never gonna get married if I tell the person I love about my power. They will jump to conclusions and think that I manipulated them. I don't know how. It sucks." Cora let the words flow out, surprised when her thoughts spilled out onto Carson's lap. "Like you'd care about anything I just said. You're too cold. Maybe it was a good move on Jamie's part to reject you." Cora covered her mouth. "I'm sorry." She looked down falling back on her bed. "But I meant every word." Cora was not going to lie to Carson. No way.

Cora's words stung. Way to kick my when I'm down, bitch! Carson thought. A tear threatened to roll, but Carson turned away from Cora just before she saw. "Can't even come to my own dorm room without being verbally harassed by my own room mate..." She muttered, her voice beginning to shake as she began to leave the room.

Cora stood. "I can't come to my own dorm without a rude comment or two from you. You haven't been nice to me at all, Carson. How do you expect me to react?" The words that came out of Carson were ones used by a saint. Not Carson. "I want to help, Carson. Sure, I wanna see the limits of my powers, but I can't. The only power that is around are the voices that harbor in my head, day and night! So you have zero chance of being manipulated. Like i said, I want to help." Cora looked at Carson, grabbing her arm and tugging her back in. "Why are you running away?" she asked.

"How was I being rude to you!? Today you came in, nosed into my personal life, and when I calmly told you that it wasn't your business, you had to go be miss know-it-all and insult me, saying it was right for Jamie to reject me? I think you should take sometime to realize how you're treating me before you go pointing fingers..." Carson cast her a scowl and yanked her arm free.

Cora glared at Carson. "I was asking why you were lying, motionless, on you be, face down. What if you had collapsed or something? I guessed it had to do with Jamie if it wasn't serious. And what about all of the other times? You either ran out on me or was all pessimistic. Even Artemis, the evil one, is friendly to me. But you?" Cora couldn't finish. She hated when she got viscous. But the blunt personalities of Carson and herself clashed sometimes, and Cora really didn't have to patience to take it. "I thought you would be nicer."

Cora awoke sharply to the sound of the voices that, even though there were only two, filled her head with their agitated tones. "Shut up," she hissed out loud, indifferent to any chance that her roommates heard. She hadn't talked to Artemis much, but she seemed friendly. Carson, however, irked her greatly, and, in spite of their tiffs, she still wished the girl was her friends. Cora sighed as the voices quieted, planting a smile on her face as she sat back to fall asleep once more.
