Cal had her fill and disappeared back into the confines of her room to be the hermit she has been being for the past weeks. She was just... busy. Yes, busy.

Daphne finally made it down to the courtyard. She knew the pancakes were going late, so she wasn't too worried. She figured everyone would be there early anyways. Normally everyone would be forced back into their dorms by now. It was nice to get out at night every once and a while. That was probably one of the only things homecoming week was good for.
She looked around, there were quite a few people, though only a few people actually working the event. She looked at the faces, she knew Robyn was one of them. Her room mate, so she tended to know where the girl was going to be. One she didn't know and then... the boy from the library. Pen boy, Derek. She smiled softly, walking up to the booth and to Derek, waving.
"Pancakes... fluffy... white. Tends to be buttery. Sounds like it could be the premise for a dirty movie."

Derek rolled his eyes at Lyra's comment. Though he didn't doubt for one second that would eventually be part of Ethan's birthday present. Turning around he noticed Daphne had come up to the booth. Lowering the fire on the stove for a bit, he leaned over the counter and commented, "You forgot it can get sticky also. And of course you don't have to do it alone, it's more fun with friends." Oh my. What was it with today and all the suggestive innuendo remarks?

"Ooooh. Good one, nice come back," Daphne smiled again, standing in front of the booth. She had her hands shoved into her jean pockets. It was a little colder out here than she'd thought it would be, but it wasn't too bad. Colds hands weren't all that fun though. "I'm sad. I missed you flipping pancakes. Maybe I should have come down earlier." She grinned.

"Well..." He grabbed a plate he had finished earlier, they were still warm to the touch, thankfully. "...you can still taste some of those pancakes I flipped. Nice, warm, and fluffy." Pushing a plate toward her, and noting the line was empty and it seemed nobody else was coming up he decided to throw his apron on the counter and called out to Lyra, "Looks like we're done here, go have more unresolved sexual tension. Or not. Talk to you later!" He then joined Daphne on the outside, and took in the night sky.

"Alright, have fun," Lyra said. She looked at the mess that needed to be cleaned up. Lyra rubbed her temples. This was going to be fun. Pulling out a large trash bag, Lyra walked over to the condiments section to throw away the plates tossed on the ground and empty syrup bottles. Derek didn't need to help, he already did enough today and she would have to thank him later. Maybe write him a card or something.

Daphne smiled, taking the pancakes from him and watching him take off the apron and yell to Lyra. "Unresolved sexual tension? That sounds like an interesting story. Who is she, any how?" She asked now, looking to Derek. She leaned against the table, her eyes shifting for a moment to the sky, then back to him.

"Oh Lyra? She's a good friend of mine. Kind of my senior mentor. Though at times I wonder who is mentoring who. Regardless, she's fun to be around." Derek smiled at Daphne, it was nice being able to see her again. He felt comfortable, almost as if there wasn't anything awkward about when they first met. Chuckling, he asked, "So, how've you been since the library incident. Dodging pens and breaking complex security systems?"

"You have a senior mentor?..." She asked now, looking to him a little skeptically. She was eating her pancakes now. "Good pancakes by the way. But I can't help but think that you had some help." Daphne smiled now, she nodded slightly. "I can't say I've had to dodge another pen. Nor have I done any serious hacking. I'm a little tentative to try from here. Not enough... protection."

Derek chuckled and shook his head. "Not in a tutoring sense. I should say she kinda just adopted me into her group of friends, and we ended up becoming good friends." Tasting some of his own pancakes he added, "I'm actually very good when it comes to cooking. I learned from some professionals a while back. But these are entirely my doing."
He chuckled when she noted she didn't have to dodge any flying pens. Though admittedly, he was surprised she wasn't approached by any other boys. She was astonishingly cute, especially in the night light. Yawning, he noted the time on his watch. He had to be up early tomorrow, so he pushed himself off the table and turned back toward Daphne. "I better get going, more Homecoming stuff to take care of tomorrow. I'll see you around?" Before turning to leave, for some reason he was struck with an idea. Something about tonight was pushing him, something about Daphne was just pulling him. Derek quickly gave into the instinct and kissed Daphne quickly, saying, "Um. Good night." He quickly walked away berating himself doing something so stupid.

The outdoors smelled like one giant barbecue pit of delicious meet. Lyra was thankful that the StuCo or Dance Committee members did not have to work the grills today. Students were in line for various foods, such as BBQ ribs, hamburgers/cheeseburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob, baked beans and various other BBQ-oriented food. With a plate of ribs, fruit salad, coleslaw and cornbread carried by one hand and a can or Sprite in the other, Lyra sat down on the grass to enjoy her free meal.

Dinner today would hopefully be better than the normal dorm food. Aaron hoped that this was catered rather than school cafeteria food served outside, but it did smell better than usual. Aaron wasn't starving so he got a cheeseburger and put his toppings on it before getting a water bottle. Seeing Lyra alone, Aaron sat down next to her. "Hey, Lyra," Aaron greeted his fellow Physical-Division friend, "shouldn't you be working?" he joked before taking a bite of his burger.

With her teeth already sinking into the rib, Lyra laughed a little and shook her head before tearing the meat off. "No," Lyra said, wiping her mouth with the napkin so she didn't look silly with BBQ sauce over her face. "We got a break for today. But I had to help set up and take down today. It's a busy week," Lyra said, taking another bite. "Have you asked anyone to homecoming yet?" Lyra asked him. She didn't hear anything about him asking any one or going so it never hurt to find out.

"Uhh..." when Lyra asked about homecoming, Aaron stopped eating. Ketchup dripped from his burger, landing on the paper plate. Should he tell Lyra? I mean, she was roommates with Mel and he didn't want her spilling out anything. Holding the back of his neck with a sheepish look on his face, Aaron took a small breath, "I'm in the process of asking someone to homecoming," Aaron answered.

"In the process?!" Lyra was going to slap Aaron across the face. Homecoming was in less than three days. He better hoped whoever he was going to ask out would say yes- and have a dress for the dance! Lyra shook her head and grunted, "seriously Aaron, what's holding you back for so long?" Boys. They were so confusing.
