This is where the students eat.

Aaron started to feel hungry. He didn't plan to go to the dining hall to eat, but the smell of food called to him. He stood in like for the buffet-style serving and got himself a coke and a slice of pizza. Aaron looked for a relatively empty table and sat down at one, looking at all the students. He wondered what they were thinking, what they were talking about. Aaron took a bite of his pizza, the grease dripping down and making a small pool on the paper plate.

After feeling accomplished for signing up for a fight, Penelope made her way to the Dining Hall to get a late lunch. Among the fairly empty tables, she spotted Aaron. She didn't know that he was arriving early, too, so after she got her food, she went to sit at his table. "Hey, Aaron," Penelope said. "I didn't know you were going to be here early."

"My mom suggested I come here early," Aaron said, his eyes flashing up at Penelope before looking back down at his pizza. "When you go home it gets boring. Especially when all of your friends are scattered across the states," he said, his eyes gazing into space. He took another bite of his pizza, the cheese stringing away from his mouth. After he chewed, he took a drink of his coke. It was the perfect match. Aaron blinked and looked back at Penelope, "how about you? What brings you here?"

"A similar reason; Home was boring and stressful, and pretty much all of my friends are here, so I packed up and came early. Just got here yesterday," Penelope explained, as she picked at her food, taking a few bites occasionally. "What have you done so far?" she asked him.

"Why stressful?" Aaron was curious, but quickly changed the subject, hoping Penny wouldn't go back to his question. "I just moved here yesterday, so just unpacking and enjoying the campus again," he said. "When did you get here?" he asked her. Most people arrived yesterday, it seemed, but his roommates did not show up yet.

"Just... Parents," Penelope said, glad that Aaron changed the subject. "I got here a little bit after noon," she said. "And I've been doing pretty much the same." Penelope took another few bites of her food and looked around the virtually empty dining hall.

"Oh well it's summer. The nice thing about here is that there's a swimming pool," Aaron commented. "I don't have one at home and the pool here is better than the YMCA's," he said, looking back at Penelope. It was nice to have company and he was happy to have someone sit next to him for lunch.

"Same here, and the pool at the community center is usually filled with kids, anyway," Penelope didn't go swimming too often, as it got uncomfortable for her after 15 or so minutes, but she liked it, nonetheless. "Are you looking forward to anything in particular this year?" she asked Aaron.

Aaron shook his head, "no. I don't see any events planned for the school year, so nothing to look forward to in particular," he said, his eyes darting away from Penelope and back to his pizza. He took another sip of coke. "What about you?" he asked her.

"I just signed up for a fight in the arena," Penelope said, "So I'm pretty pumped for that." She watched Aaron as his eyes darted from one place to another, she wondered if something was on his mind.

"I'm not into fighting. I'm more of a passive person," Aaron flashed a small smile at Penelope. And it was true for the boy who could control emotions. There was not much he could do for fighting with his gift. He could calm the person down, maybe think them into not wanting to fight... but there was no real reason to use his powers for fighting. "Good luck to you, though."

"So then what do you plan on doing after school?" Penelope asked. There wasn't much use to being at a school like this if you weren't going to learn how to use your powers in a fight.

"Read, join after school clubs if there's something that sparks my interest," Aaron replied. He would disagree with Penelope's opinion about being at this school. Here he learned how to control his powers- how to fight the urge to use them for wrong, knowing the time and place where using his power was acceptable. You couldn't learn that anywhere else.

"No, I meant after you graduate," Penelope said. "Don't you want to do something with your powers?" she asked. She pushed her mostly empty plate to the side, not hungry anymore, and waited to hear Aaron's response.
