Mykel bit his lip hard, eyes shut. He'd never met the boy, but surely they could have gotten along.

He was in my grade, she thought to herself, still in shock, she vaguely remembered having some classes with him and some girl having a crush on him freshman year. Tari couldn't believe this was happening, bad stuff didn't happen at Oceanside. Everything was safe. Why did he have to go inside? How did he even get in? She silenced the questions pestering her and continued to listen.

Vergil hugged his book to his chest not really knowing how to react. Death was a sad thing, inevitable, but sad. He didn't know the deceased and his heart went out to the poor students here who were his friends- his family as well who must be devastated, but he had to have gone into the room on his own. For that alone, he held no pity for the boy. He went too far with his curiosity and paid the price.

Maria took another breath, and a single tear flowed down her cheek. "Today we acknowledge a truly terrible loss. Logan Sykes, was a smart young man. He was kind and loving, and most knew him for cracking a joke at the most inconvenient of times, " she let out a small laugh. "But most importantly, Logan was a wonderful friend to many of you. Therefore, you have the right to know how he came to lose his life."

Logan Sykes, nope, definitely not someone he knew. Mental Division, and a telepath to boot. Sure it was sad to hear the kid had died, but telepaths had always creeped him out. His memories and thoughts were personal, he didn't like the idea of someone being able to look at them. But the statement of his that she read out loud made him thoughtful.

Derek's eyes shot up. He wanted to know how he died. There was clearly a whole mystery afoot, and Derek wanted, no, felt he was obligated, to get to the bottom of it.

"While I am not allowed to tell you exactly what is in that room, I can tell you that it is vital to the existence of Supers. What is inside of that room, holds tremendous power. It has the capability of miraculous healing, it is able to transform one's abilities. But it is powerful. Very very powerful. And without the proper precautions, it can take hold of you. First, it will take your abilities, and then, your life."

Nefertari shuddered as the headmistress explained what was inside the room, she really did not want to go anywhere near the back of the fourth floor now.

Vergil couldn't help but wonder how that would feel. If it was as if someone took a large needle and stabbed viciously into your back then pulled the syringe's end to take your abilities by force.. If it was quickly, done slowly, or if you lost all awareness and just felt numb then fell dead. He then wondered if they had his body somewhere in the school. Continuing to hug his tome, he just shooed all the thoughts away- not liking where they were going.

Well that sounded unpleasant. But it was a vital part of supers existence? Why would they hide that at a school of all places? Why in a place students could find easily? Was it some kind of sick joke? Lets put a dangerous thing in a school with kids, who are naturally curious! Brilliant! Snorting faintly he eyed the doors, wondering if he would get into trouble for cutting out early. At least this quelled his curiosity. Heck, if they had just described it at the beginning no one would have been interested to begin with.

"Every moment, there are groups scouring the globe night and day for these rooms that contain these... things. And the pain we all feel for this dreadful loss reminds me, reminds us, that while we come from different places, and speak in different languages, the hearts of Supers beat as one, that even us without superhuman hearing can hear.
"The bonds of friendship and allegiance that we have will be, in these hard times, more important than ever. Remember that.
"Remember that and Logan Sykes will not be remembered as a boy who's curiosity got the better of him, but as a young man who died in the arms of what makes us great."

Melrose felt her jaw drop. Her whole face and body posture for that matter. She had taken Oceanside to be a beautiful place. A safe place. Yet here came something so real and inevitable in life... death. It didn't seem possible. Not at Oceanside. Not so close to this new home.
Whoever this Logan Sykes was, he was now dead. He had only roamed the halls yesterday and now he was gone forever. The last thing he ever saw was Oceanside. The last place anyone will ever remember him being was Oceanside. He had died within the very walls Melrose now lived behind.
What was the last thing that went through his head? Family? Friends? Regrets? Did he see his life flash before his eyes, just like how the movies portray death to feel like? Was Logan Sykes walking among them as the Headmistress spoke, unseen by others' eyes? Or did one lose both body and spirit when death came?
Did it hurt him? Or was it a feeling of relief in being freed from the weight of life?
Is there life after this?
The thought of experiencing those last moments sent chills through Melrose's spine. She couldn't help but begin to wonder what it'll be like when she leaves this physical being on earth. Her face became warm with emotion, her eyes watering. No, quit it. Not here. Not now.

So it gives us power, but it also takes it away. It also connects us all as one. And it's an object. Derek mulled this all over in his mind. This made his curiosity worse. But he kept himself under control. There was no way he would go there unless he had someway to control it. And even before that he need to be able to control his own powers first. The object would have to wait, but not before the groups the Headmistress speaks of descends upon this one.
Derek looked around and saw pained faces. He couldn't bring one to his face. He didn't know these people, he had no emotional attachment. Even the regret of not knowing someone wasn't enough to bring emotion to his face. Derek kept stoic.

"I apologize for any feelings you currently have, and I hope that Logan's memory does not haunt your dreams tonight. I will be in my office for those of you who need someone to talk to, and you will all be notified shortly of when his funeral will be," she took another breath. "Please follow your teachers and prefects back to your residence halls, good night." The Headmistresses walked off the stage together and to the main building, not staying to answer any questions in front of the whole school.

James had left before she even finished, heading out into the courtyard, frowning heavily. This object didn't seem worth it, and he didn't want to get into the room quite as badly now. And he was glad it hadn't been him to end up dead. Hands in his pockets he headed back to his dorm, for now.
