It was a couple days since Lyra went swimming and today was good weather to do so. It wasn't incredibly hot outside- nothing compared to back home at Vegas and the pool water seemed warm enough to go swimming. Lyra took off her clothes that were over her swimsuit and set them down on a chair. She took a deep breath- jumping in would be better to get it over and done with.
Lyra started to run to the pool but stopped at the edge: she was too scared, fearing the cold. Her arms flailed back and forth to keep herself from falling. She backed up and took another breath. Okay this time she'd jump in. She ran in and jumped into the pool, her head and upper body poking out of the water. Lyra's hair was covering her face so her she tilted her head back so her hair could move away from her face.

It was his first day at the school for the new school year, and Jayden was barely settled in. But he was feeling restless and decided to go for a swim... if the water temperature felt good. Hopefully no one was going to be there. Others were probably starting to socialize and get cozy, but being the type of person he was, Jayden didn't care as much for that.
Upon arriving at the pool, a girl was in the middle of jumping into the pool...much to Jayden's dismay. The stony appearance on Jayden's face didn't allow his disappointment to show, however, as he approached the pool. Not acknowledging the girl's presence, Jayden ran his hand in the water to test the temperature. Hm. Not bad. Warm enough for this type of weather.

Lyra turned around to swim in the opposite direction and blinked wide-eyed (probably chlorine got in her eye) when she saw the sight of Jayden. "Uh, hello?" Lyra greeted Jayden to break the awkwardness. She was the only one swimming and it was always weird when someone was standing there testing the water.

Jayden didn't mind the silence, really. But as soon as Lyra spoke, he looked up toward her. Way to make things still awkward. Jayden merely replied, "Hey," before looking back down to the water.
Okay. Really, if he was going to be here, then he might as well get in and talk with the one other person here. Otherwise, it was uncomfortable. So he took off his T-shirt, tossed it onto a side chair, and climbed in. "You're..."
He couldn't recall the name, but he had seen her around the previous year. Great. Not knowing the name just made things even more awkward for Jayden. What are you thinking? Jayden mentally scolded himself. Normally he wasn't one to even attempt making conversation, but it seemed as if this situation couldn't be helped for someone like him.

Lyra backed away, walking on her tippy-toes as Jayden entered the pool. She closed her eyes and turned her head to the side, in case he made some sort of splash and she didn't want water in her eyes... even though she was already wet. It was weird how swimming worked. Lyra sneezed and covered her mouth with her arm, "oh, bless me," she said, her eyes watery.
Her hands were back in the pool and she stayed in place. "I'm..." her voice trailed with Jayden's but completed his question, "I'm Lyra," she replied to Jayden, "and you are?" she asked him for his name.

Jayden jumped a little, surprised at the sudden sneeze. "Bless you," he said automatically, a little smile playing along his features. But it was gone as soon as it happened.
He then proceeded to state, "I'm Jayden. I saw you around last year but never got to know you." Not knowing exactly what to say next, he gave her a weak smile and added, "I'm a junior this year." Oh god, he was terrible at this socializing stuff.

Lyra nodded, making a small "oh" sound when Jayden introduced himself as a junior. "That's probably why we never talked," Lyra said to Jayden, "I'm a senior so we had different classes and friends and such..." Lyra looked down at the water. What a... weird explanation. It wasn't even necessary. "Anyways," Lyra's voice was lighter, "it's nice to meet you Jayden," Lyra said. "What brings you to the pool?" she asked, obviously Jayden wanted to swim, but it was a conversation starter.

"Yeah, probably." Jayden paused as he sunk into the water to wet his head, and when he came back up, his hair was dripping. But it felt nice. He shook his head slightly to rid his hair of some water but not vigorously enough to sprinkle it anywhere near Lyra.
"Nice to meet you, too. Today's my first day back--I was out for the summer. So... I don't know. I was bored, I guess. So I came here. What about you?"

"Oh where were you?" Lyra asked Jayden, assuming he was on vacation. "My family wasn't doing anything for the rest of summer and neither was my friend, so we came back here early since it's our last year here," Lyra said. She had no real reason to come back... maybe the weather, yeah, the weather was nice.

"Italy. Visiting my grandparents with my family and stuff. That was it, but it was still a pretty long time to spend there," Jayden explained. "If I stayed here during the summer, I'd be bored to death. I don't normally socialize anyway."
Come to think of it, why was he doing it now? Oh, right. Empty pool. One other person.

"Italy?! Wow," Lyra was impressed. The only other country she's been to was Mexico. Italy- now that was something much cooler. "That's amazing! I've never been there," most people haven't been there... but the people who went to this school were normally from different countries. "Do you go there often?" she asked.

Jayden nodded. "Yeah. I was born there. After I moved to California, I started visiting Italy every summer. What about you? Where are you from?"

"Every summer?" Lyra's eyes widen- holy shit this guy must be loaded to afforested plane tickets every year. "I'm from Vegas," Lyra said. It wasn't as exciting as being from Italy, but some people would differ. Las Vegas wasn't as exciting as most people played it to be. But maybe that's because Lyra wasn't old enough to do most things that Vegas has to offer.

"Yeah. Italy gets pretty boring, though." Now Jayden couldn't understand why she seemed so surprised, but he let it slide by without asking.
Now Vegas was actually pretty interesting. "That's cool. I always thought of it more as a tourist place, so meeting someone who actually lived there and came from there--that's pretty awesome," he commented with a smile.

Italy... boring? Lyra disagreed but didn't say anything. Maybe Italy was extremely boring, maybe the food was incredibly gross. She wasn't the one for Italian food anyways. "I guess it's pretty awesome," Lyra shrugged, "I live in a hotel room so I'm right by the Strip," Lyra lied. Maybe this person would believe her, since there were people who believed people who live in Las Vegas live in hotel rooms.
