"For four years, each and every one of you gets to spend a good amount of time each day learning about your powers. Some of you have Physical powers; powers that affect your personal body. They may enable you to walk through walls, hear miniscule sounds, or even fly. Some of you have Manipulation powers; you may be able to control the elements, or bend time and space. And some of you have Mental powers; You can see the future, or understand anything in an instant."

James had heard the intercom, and had simply not started out until a few minutes ago. Hearing the beginning of the speech he snorted a bit, having put his cigarette out just outside before coming in. He pushed the door open, a little wider than necessary, and finally joined the crowd. Picking a seat where hardly anyone was, and pulling it out of line to sit. What did he care after all? He would have skipped the assembly completely had he not wanted to come in purposefully late.

"Yes, each one of you has a power. A power that makes you super. And since 1935, Oceanside School for the Gifted has helped house, train, and protect young people with super abilities." Maria stepped down from the podium to let Headmistress Annabella speak again.

When Maria had finished giving the background information of the school, Annabella leaned near the microphone once again and began reciting the rules,"There are to be no drugs or alcohol on campus. No pornography on the premises, or anything as inappropriate. Any damage to school property that you cause must be compensated for. Being rude to any of the staff members is not in your best interest", she said, looking at one of the students who had been making rude hand gestures,"And of course, going near the room at the back of the fourth floor will get you killed, or worse, expelled. You all have been warned."

It seemed like any 'welcome to school' assembly, minus the gifted part, of course. Subsequently, Zesend was extremely bored. He was thinking about making a little illusive show, but decided against it, if only because he didn't want everyone to talk to and about him. He smiled a little to himself when he heard the bit about drugs and alcohol, then wondered to himself about what was so ominous at the back of the fourth floor that they had to advise against going near it.

She continued,"To those of you who are new or have forgotten, there is to be no use of your powers outside of school, unless a life threatening emergency occurs. By using your powers outside of school, you will be creating suspicion and may be the cause of this school being shut down. And of all of these students being taking and tested on. I trust all of you know to make the right decision", she said, looking over at the students before stepping back to let Headmistress Maria continue.

Vergil ran a hand against the beads on his arm and continued to listen intently to the intertwining speeches, already briefed on the rules but now suddenly aware that if they were to be caught going against it, the result would probably not be moderately bad but worse if they were this stressed. He gave a side glance to the person on his other side and soon found himself discreetly looking around at a sea of strangers. His world was no longer his and to be suddenly aware of it was frightening.
When Headmistress Annabella stressed not using your powers outside of the grounds he was reminded about the incident at the coffee shop between Artemis, Toshie and himself. He wondered if she was around and remembered the same thing.

Samantha sat a bit straighter when she heard about the room on the fourth floor. Killed? What do they keep in there?, she thought. Sam shuddered at the thoughts.

"You should all have received a class schedule by now," the Headmistress said once she was at the microphone again. "If you have not, or if you have a problem with your schedule, come find me in my office," she told them. "Now, on your schedule you will notice that there are 8 classes per day. Unless you are ill or have another approved reason, you are required to attend all of your classes. Classes run from 7:15 AM to 2:45 PM, though most of you will start your classes at Eight O'Clock. Breakfast is served from 6 to 8 AM. Lunch is from 11 to 11:45 AM, and dinner is served from 5:00 to 8:00 PM."

Mykel lightly touched Vergil's arm. "You okay, kiddo?" He asked in a whisper, sending what he hoped was calm to the other through touch.

"Save for those of you who only arrived within the past couple of days, I'm sure that many of you have enjoyed trips into the city," Maria said. "And that is wonderful. However," she told them, "During school, you are not permitted off campus. This does not mean that after your last class you may go into the city. The hours that you may be in the city are as follows: Friday, from 2:45 PM to 10:00 PM. Saturday, from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM. And Sunday, from 6:00 AM to 9:00 PM. If you are caught out of school at any time other than those hours, you will be punished. Going into the City is a privilege, not a right."

Lia was half listening to the Headmistress's' speech. She kept an ear out to hear the biggest "do nots" and other important information. But otherwise Lia's attention was focused on the phone in her lap, she had a game of Pacman open and was nearing a level she had never been to before.

"Now," she continued, "Curfews." She heard a few moans from the audience, "I know, I know, but they're there for your safety. Every morning, you may not leave your hall before 5 AM. Sunday through Thursday nights, curfews are as follows: In your Hall by 9 PM, in a room of your gender by 10 PM, and in your room by 11 PM. On Fridays, Saturdays, and during vacations, everything is pushed back an hour. So; In your Hall by 10 PM, in a room of your gender by 11 PM, and in your room by 12 PM."
"Remember," she said, "Curfews are here for your safety, and disobeying them may result in something much worse than detention."

This was all boring, home for those with 'gifts'. Whatever. Rolling his eyes he leaned back in his chair, so it was only on two legs, balancing it perfectly so as not to fall. He wasn't even listening, his eyes were wandering the ceiling, and he finally pulled his cell phone out to play the little games that had come with it. In all honesty he should have just skipped the whole shebang. Would have been more fun. When they got to curfews and trips into the city he snorted and smirked. He would like to test that, see if he could get out and back in without them knowing. See what exactly they'd do about it.

Vergil fought the slight jump that resulted from the unexpected touch to the arm but nodded to Mykel all the same with a small smile on his lips. He was okay, just feeling the first day after-jitters and all these people and their either erratic energies: excitement swirling, disapproval bubbling, spikes of fear, distinct awe, and so on.
