Shoryu walked into his home, throwing his backpack on the floor as there were cloths draped over all of the furniture. It had been over six months since he had passed through this door. He found it hard to believe that so much had happened in such a short amount of time. He still had such fond memories of this place from when he was younger, almost none of it seemed to have changed. Yet all of his memories, of both himself alone and with his parents all seemed like a dream to him now, swallowed up by the nightmare he now lived in. "Only six months have passed since they died," he said to himself as the memory of his parents death returned to him.
Shoryu and his parents had gone to Italy, investigating a new phenomenon as his parents had been doing their scientific study on supernatural events. Though, through their investigations, they had also manged to foil several crime syndicates and got many criminals arrested. Shoryu laughed as he thought about how many myths and legends where nothing more then criminals, trying to hide their unlawful acts with superstitions, myths and legends. They had arrived late that night and decided to head straight for the statue, wanting to get a look at it during the night. According to the rumors, people where going blind when they looked upon the statue. Doctors had stated that they where caused by the retina being burned by some entense light source. it was quite unusual since the only known light source that could do something even close to that was the sun and that was if you where standing next to it.
So Shroyu's parents, being scientist, where looking at this statue as possible having a hidden energy supply that they could use and reproduce. It would be quite the discovery. And bringing Shoryu along was always best, since his photographic memory and analytical mind where really helpful in solving mysteries. The three investigators where at the statue, looking around it and trying to find what had caused such incidents to occur, wearing protective sunglasses of course. While his parents had moved away from the statue, Shoryu was looking at a jewel embedded in the forehead of the man in the statue. It seemed to shine to him but while he had been so focused on the jewel, three black cars had pulled up and several large men had stepped out of the car.
Before he understood what was happening though, the men had gunned downed his parents in cold blood, right in front of him. Shoryu let out a horrible scream as he helplessly watched his parents killed before him. The jewel he had been admirering suddenly shined with new life and it broke from the statue, floating before a surprised Shoryu before lodging itself inside his throat. With a silent cry, beams of light shot forth from him, engulfing the men and their cars. When the light had faded, the only thing left where smoldering ashes and heaps of melted metal. Shoryu slowly walked over to his parents body and knelled next to them, tears streaming down his face.
Tears where hitting the carpeted floor as the memories flooded back to Shoryu. Shacking his head, he walked into the kitchen, making himself something to eat as he was hungry from such a long flight. After his parents had died, he learned that the people responsible where a part of a larger crime syndicate of which him and his parents had actually run into many times already. It had taken him the better part of the last six months to catch each and every member of the organization and have them arrested, helped very little by the local authorities. He was praised afterwords with many awards but all of them where empty to him, none of these things could fill the void that the lose of his parents left in him.
But Shoryu was determined to live on. He didn't want his parents worrying about him so he had come home to continue the life he once knew. Feeling himself getting down again, he slapped himself in the face and said, "OK, time for a walk! That always made me feel better. I wonder if that old tire swing is still hanging from that tree?" He had remembered how he and some of his friends had put a tire swing in the forest that he lived near. Wanting to find out, he left his home and walked the short distance to the park that attached to the woods. Without even a glance at the park, he dived into the thick forest and straight for the tree that the tire was attached to.
