Kyra Elizabeth Casper
( The Basics )
( Full Name) Kyra (KAI-ra) Elizabeth Casper
( Age ) 18
( Birthdate ) May 15
( Sex ) Female
( Hometown ) Brainerd, MN (about exactly center of the state)
( Class ) senior
( Sexuality ) Undecided but girls have a better chance of getting past "just friends"
( Played By ) Alexz Johnson
( Their Power)
( Ability ) Unlike most, Kyra has both passive and active abilities. Passive abilities will work when they choose to do so and training has no effect on controlling them.
Intangibility : Molecular shifting of molecules to pass through solid objects (and occasional semi-solids.) Basically, she can walk through walls. In this state she becomes less defined, somewhat ghostly, as if seen in a light fog.
Passives:
Knowledge/Knowing: Having information without using any standard means to obtain it. Only works on sight, and often touch is required. Also, she can not name the item even if she gives a detailed description of the use or what it comes from (if it only a piece), the name must be supplied to her.
Luck/Will: Almost two different abilities that tie so closely together they are as one. Allows subconscious need to affect surroundings to a certain degree. Must have close indirect contact with the item(s) that are being affected, such as swinging a bat in baseball and making a home run because the bat and ball connected. If she were to miss hitting the ball entirely there would be no effect.
( Type of Power ) Physical
( Weakness ) While merely untrained in her Intangibility, Kyra has no control at all of her passive abilities. However, they never activate during tests or to help her cheat, possibly influenced by her moral code (unexplored.) With Knowing in particular, once she has identified the use of an item once, Kyra can not do the same again. Unknown if an identical item can be read for the same result again.
( Good vs. Evil ) Undecided
( Personality )
Kyra isn't afraid to speak her mind, but she also doesn't know when to shut her mouth and if you watch carefully when she catches herself rambling there's a moment of self-annoyance and a wince combined. She knows her social skills need a lot of work but there's no way to improve if you don't practice and she tries to keep a very critical eye on her own actions and performance. Yet, for all that she says, she doesn't tell very much about herself at all. Some misplaced comments around a speech counselor (she couldn't pronounce 'L's right until third grade) led to awkward questions from teachers to her parents about thier marriage so she doesn't share anything remotely private anymore. Not until she fully trusts someone.
( Little Details )
( Strengths) Listens well (when she chooses) and so she often has information that might be required. Semi-photographic memory, for a short while after doing something new she can remember it almost exactly but the knowledge fades if not used several times in the proper time span (10 minutes - 1 hour depending.)
( Weaknesses ) Anything super girly, she hates make-up and goes without as often as possible. Paying attention, if she loses interest she'll stop listening to a conversation but she'll also listen in on conversations she shouldn't because she can.
( Dark Secrets) At 17 she broke the heart of the only guy she's ever loved in part because it was a long distance relationship and seemed to be straining. And in part to hook up with a girl she'd fallen for who proceeded to break her heart only a handful of months later by hooking up with the girl who introduced them originally. Kyra still loves both of her exes, but looks to find a new relationship to try forgetting them.
She's also had thieving tenancies from a young age but mostly keeps the klepto desires in check.
( Reputation ) Transferred just this year, socially inept but tries anyway. She was known for falling often and in sorts of strange ways at her old school and with her (lack of) balance she's bound to claim that same title here.
( History )
Kyra's powers are a very strange matter. Almost from birth she had her passive abilities but the ability to pass through solid objects didn't manifest until much later. Over the previous summer she had been hanging out with some friends and they were all in a tree and a misjudge on the strength of a branch sent her falling. The tree was on a riverbank but there was only a tiny trickle in it at the time so the drop was 10-15 feet on that side and only a couple feet on the other side where the trail led to the tree. She was on the riverbed side.
Amazingly, the only resulting injury she had was a headache due to adrenaline. She was completely fine otherwise, not even any mud on her clothes, and she thought nothing of it but as another story to add to her repertoire of surprisingly tales. But as the summer went on she started to notice that she didn't always wake up in the room she thought she'd gone to sleep in. Sometimes Kyra would wake in the basement on a couch by the tv, sure she'd fallen asleep in her own room. It seemed to be bad memory or sleep walking but once another friend was hanging out and they decided to hang out on the roof outside her bedroom (accessible only by pulling out the window screens.) Her friend paused to use the bathroom but Kyra went on and, out of habit, stuck her hand in the window to see if she'd put the screen back in. She felt the air and so climbed through the window as usual. A short while later there was a knock on the window and her friend was standing there asking how she'd closed it from outside.
That was when she knew something strange was happening, but the fall from that tree never crossed her mind. It may not even be involved at all, she wouldn't know. Once she started looking she started to piece things together and knew she'd need to get some kind of help, if only in control.
Shortly before school was set to start again, Kyra was online surfing and found Oceanside mentioned. There was nothing saying that it was tailored for students of this nature but she knew she had to enroll anyway. The Oceanside year began earlier than the school she should have been finishing her high school career at, but she was tired of all the people she hated (and who hated her) and needed to get away. Her mom had been suggesting the same for a year already and though she didn't like the distance between them, she supported the decision. Kyra might be late for the start of the school year but it's worth it if she can learn to control these abilities.

(Sample)
Prince Marcov An'deline, heir to King Winlode An'deline, ruler of the Water throne in the Elemental lands, was currently out on a ride through more remote regions of the lands he would one day inherit as part of a border inspection. But instead of focusing on his royal duties, the youth was again daydreaming (as he did nearly all the time) about slipping off to join the hunters, who collected food and supplies for the royal village.
The Water territory was a collection of villages, located close to one another and the massive lake the royal village sat almost on top of, unlike the Air and Earth kingdoms where the villages were scattered far as can be in the lands. The Fire territory was said to be one large city, but the Waterborn rarely attended that land. It was the same between Earth and Airborn; opposing Elements just did not get along well. Even the royals, who had ability in all Elements because of intermarrying between kingdoms, could never boast much control in the Element opposite their native land.
Lazily, Marcov watched the ground around them, he was attended by a small gathering of royal guards to be certain he was safe but he knew his father had put them there to be sure he did as he was supposed to do. He was the only one who knew exactly where the neighboring Earth kingdom began, but he never could let them leave their kingdom. He'd tried once and been found out almost immediately by the guards that time. There was a change in the air when they crossed the invisible boundary between realms. His teachers told him it was the end of where the Water magic was boosted by the immense lake in the center of the kingdom and any Waterborn could tell when the energy left. When questioned why he didn't sense anything, they had theorized it was because Marcov's mother was an Earth witch, so he would receive an energy boost on either side and he merely couldn't sense the change in the energy type. With proper training, they claimed, he'd be able to do so but he wasn't to that point yet.
They were nearing a village where young Water users were just beginning to learn their skills. The lead guard called for a halt, barely glancing at the prince to be sure he agreed. They were very definitely more intent on bossing than obeying him. Before the dismount was even called the dark haired (too light for black but to dark for any color) young man was off his horse and walking it to a small grove of trees for a bit of shade. The trees were nurtured by the elderly Water teachers in the village as a way to still use their magic meaningfully as otherwise the trees, and much of the surrounding flora, might well have died.
There was another group of trees a bit away and several clusters of bushes that the guard should have inspected, but they didn't. The Water lands were well away from the enemy lands, the Illuminities, protected by the Earth lands between and there was no warring between Elements as in the histories so there was no great worry. The head guard didn't even stay with the group, heading his horse over to speak with the man teaching the group of children. Marcov should have been going over there too, but he was again neglecting his duties.
Marcov gave it no thought at all as he reached into his saddlebags. Digging around he pulled out two wrapped lumps, which he proceeded to open even as he dropped himself to sit on the ground. One was a partial loaf of bread and the other some white cheese; standard rations for travel as he'd overheard some of the hunters say. There was no need to worry about running out of Water when one could summon it from the air itself, but one of the guards handed him a waterskin anyway. They were trained to always be prepared. There were rare times one's abilities might fail, and not all of those born to an Elemental village even had control of the Element. It was a rare case, but at least a couple people in the bigger villages had no power.
He took the bag and downed a rather large amount although he wasn't extremely thirsty; even in his heavier clothing. Marcov wore the long sleeved jacket, colored a deep green to mark his village, and black pants that were normal for a royal, even though they rode under the sun. Linen, as all the royal riding clothes were in (the only variation from an otherwise completely silk wardrobe), was not the worst material to wear in the heat, and with a minor mastery in Water (or Air though Water seemed to work best) the prince could easily ignore the heat entirely. The same trick could be done with cold, but Fireborn were best at that, though Airborn had effective skill as well.
Some wrinkles formed in the guard's brow but he said nothing as he took the bag back. The prince could still be a petulant child when he wanted, though he was far past the age to be such, and there was no use trying to reason with the boy. He would just turn it into an argument in the end and there was nothing productive in that. Instead he returned to where the other four guards were settling in. They positioned themselves just close enough to keep watch on the 17 year old prince, but far enough away he shouldn't think to bother them.
