Ryan Christopher Spencer
“There is no good or evil: only power and those too weak to seek it.” – J. K. Rowling.
( The Basics )
( Full Name) Ryan Christopher Spencer
( Nickname) None
( Age ) 17
( Birthdate ) 30th October
( Sex ) Male
( Hometown ) Manchester, England
( Class ) Junior
( Sexuality ) Ryan feels no sexual attraction, but is not above using sexuality as another weapon or means of control. Whether that’s with men, women or people who don’t fit the binary gender spectrum doesn’t matter to him.
( Played By ) Nicholas Hoult
( Their Power)
( Ability ) Post-cognition. Instead of seeing the future, Ryan gets fly-on-the-wall type visions of past events. While there are some advantages to his visions when it comes to finding out the truth, it lacks the obvious heroic applications of his sister’s power, who can warn others of impending danger.
Unfortunately, Ryan cannot yet control the content or frequency of his visions. Frustrated by their seemingly random nature, he has experimented with some ways of bringing on specific visions but with little success.
( Type of Power ) Mental
( Weakness ) Ryan has absolutely no control over what he sees or when he sees it. Frustrated by the seemingly random nature of his visions, he has in the past tried to bring on visions, but to no avail.
His visions do not translate for him; when they do come to him in other languages, he can't understand what's going on. If he does not know how to fly an aeroplane, for example, then he will not be able to tell if the pilot in his vision is doing things properly.
Ryan's state of mind impacts heavily upon the quality of his visions; when tired, for example, it becomes much harder for him to make out specific details. The use of his power leaves Ryan tired and often with a headache; were he to see too many things in the past, then he would run the risk of fainting. Changes in his surroundings while he is in a vision can also affect the accuracy of his vision – even very subtle things such as music increasing slightly in volume may distort his vision, leaving him believing something to be true which is not so. Ryan is unaware of this limitation.
As a result of what has already happened to Dalia, Ryan is more than aware of the possible risks his power poses to him and his mind and is extremely reluctant to risk losing control to the ghosts of the past.
( Good vs. Evil ) Ryan is a sociopathic, manipulative, malevolent human being with an over-inflated sense of self-importance. He also wishes to become a superhero – not out of a strong moral code, but because he thinks it will provide the best opportunity for him to get what he wants and screw with the rest of the world a little on the way.
( Personality )
When he was seven years old, Ryan hid a mouse in his lunchbox and starved it to death, just to see what would happen. It wouldn't be the last mouse he would take up to his bedroom.
Superficially charming, Ryan never had any shortage of people willing to go along with his games, no matter how dangerous they might have been for the other kids. In his early childhood, he exhibited little regard for others' feelings, personal safety and private property. No one was safe - not even Dalia. It was only when he grew up a little more that he discovered other, more subtle ways of eliciting the reaction he wanted.
Ever since the accident that killed their parents, however, Ryan has been more than willing to be the big brother Dalia needs. Not through any sense of brotherly affection, of course; as long as Dalia needs him, he will hold a certain sway over her. If she needs him, then he can control her and that makes him better than her.
As assured of his own intelligence and superiority as Ryan may be his relationship with Dalia is less one-sided than at first it may appear: After all, it's impossible to think of yourself as the best if you have no one to be better than.
Easily bored, his attitude towards the rest of the world oscillates between apathy and hatred, occasionally coming to rest at a kind of condescending affection. However little he may think of the people around him, Ryan has no compulsions about hiding the fact and finds it very easy to fake the kinds of emotions 'normal' people should have.
( Little Details )
( Strengths) Ryan is completely comfortable lying and putting on a role, having learned years ago to bundle up all of his rage and bury it deep within himself, all the better for fibbing with. He’s good at computer games, especially first person shooters, and loves Fable 2. Ryan is still getting accustomed to the rules of poker, but he isn’t half bad at that either, and likes to act in his spare time.
( Weaknesses ) Ryan is allergic to shellfish and prone to migraines as a result of his powers. He can’t draw to save his life, and while he is physically fit lacks the coordination necessary to let him play sports well. He has a short attention span, and is prone to making snap judgements about people. Of course, as Ryan is convinced that everyone else in his life is less intelligent and a lot more boring than he is, it isn’t often that he’ll find his assumptions challenged. He handles what he sees as humiliation badly, particularly when it seems to come at the hands of someone ‘lesser’ than him. Everyone on Earth, of course, being ‘lesser’ than him, according to Ryan.
That said, if anyone were to ever come between him and his sister, he would take great pleasure in venting some of his pent-up frustrations on him. Ryan needs a Dalia, he needs to be needed, and there isn’t anything he wouldn’t do to make sure his spot as the centre of Dalia’s universe remains unchallenged.
( Dark Secrets) The night before visiting Dalia in hospital after the crash, Ryan had slammed his skinny little arms against the windowsill, and had even ‘borrowed’ one of his aunt’s razors to scratch up his arm. When he was alone with Dalia, he had rolled up his sleeves and told her that their parents were abusive, but he had always tried to protect her from the worst of it, and that it was just because he loved her and she needed to trust him, after all, because wasn’t he the only one who ever really looked after her? “I’m glad it wasn’t you, I promise,” he had sobbed, his fat crocodile tears streaming down his face, “But Dalia, I’m glad it was them too...”
As well as faking an entire history of abuse to manipulate his sister who had lost huge chunks of her memory, Ryan keeps his true, sociopathic nature hidden.
( Reputation ) Super close to his creepy sister, Dalia; Ryan always goes out of his way to help her out. And he's, like, into drama or something too isn't he?
( Family)
( Mother ) Sam Spencer, died age 34 when the twins were 10.
( Father ) Alex Spencer, died age 39 when the twins were 10.
( Siblings ) His twin sister, Dalia Spencer, 17, who can see the future and is also a student at the school. Ryan makes sure Dalia remembers just how much she needs him, and what good care he takes of her, especially when everyone else in their life has always let them down.
( Any Other) Auntie Evelyn, 54, a chef who took in the twins for a short period of time after their parents died. Ryan used to remind his sister how much it hurt them when Auntie Evelyn put them into foster care, and how terrible it was that she hadn’t done something to stop their abusive parents when they were still alive, but now he doesn’t think of her much at all.
( Belongings )
( Car ) None
( Phone ) Nokia 2330 Classic. Ryan hardly ever has credit, though.
( Music ) None
( Anything Else) A PSP and a couple of games, including his favourite, ‘God of War’.
(Sample)
This post was taken from a Phoenix Wright RP set between the first and second games; I played Manfred von Karma
As always, Manfred woke alone.
The first thing he became aware of was the fluorescent light, and the buzzing noise it made. The low hum filled the room and Manfred found himself gazing up at the strip of plastic and metal, waiting for the sound to take note of his presence and stop making that infernal sound.
It did not do so. Manfred narrowed his eyes.
The chair was empty, he noticed. There was no reason why it should be otherwise. The foolish girl had duties that lay elsewhere and it was as well that she had finally realised this. Franziska was a prosecutor now, the only von Karma prosecutor, and that mantle would become too heavy to bear if one allowed foolish matters to interfere with one’s judgement.
With a tiny pinprick of something not unlike guilt, Manfred’s fingers found the dressing on his wound. There had been a time, he remembered, when something other than the desire to be the perfect prosecutor had motivated him.
But Franziska would be different, he decided. The girl, after all, was not here; she was better than that. She was –or would be-perfect. She would not allow anything to distract her.
For the fourth time in his life, Manfred felt proud of something other than another perfectly prosecuted case. It was an odd sensation, he decided, yet not altogether unpleasant. Manfred closed his eyes and let the buzz of the light lull him back into sleep. He was alone, his daughter was not here, and he had never been more proud of her in his life.
