He dreaded this day. He stared at the marble floor as his muscles tensed. He thought about how much he had been through these past few years. The emotion, the pain, the achievements, it was all so long ago, but it felt like yesterday. Now was the time. It was his time to shine.
Suddenly the door slid open. Thomas rose to his feet. Slowly, but powerfully he entered the room.
With a flick of his arm, he took out his saber. Igniting it he fluidly went through motions of pre-battle. The arena was a huge stone labyrinth under a blue sky. He burst in dashing through each corner. Soon he found battle.
Three Glaalarv, a huge sticky larva-like monster, blocked his path. He remembered that it wasn't tangible because its ooze was poisonous. Yet he smirked as he burst through them, cutting each in two. Nothing too hard, so he continued to dash.
He jumped off the wall to get a better view of the maze, and he saw that he wasn't too far from the end. Deciding to stay on top, he ran on top of the walls. Easily jumping from wall to wall, and dodging unnecessary battles, he quickly made it to the end.
As soon as he reached the end, a huge monster rose from the ground. It shook the labyrinth violently and it took all his skill to stay standing. The monster rose to seven stories high, and loomed over Thomas. The dreaded Gauntium, a huge tyrant that few have fought, and none have lived. Spikes lined the spine which enhanced the monster's scare factor. It had a T-Rex like head but much bigger and more powerful. It caught sight of Thomas, and charged its attack. A huge energy collected in its mouth, as it powered up. Thomas drew back, attempting to dodge this tyrant's attack. Then it gave a loud, throaty noise, and unleashed its attack.
It hit with a blinding speed, and the light itself would have blinded any ordinary person. But Thomas shielded his face, and dodged the beam. He ran up the back, jumping from spike to spike. He stabbed him in the neck, and he gave out a horrific moan.
But Gauntium grabbed Thomas. He tried stabbing its hand, but it gave no response. Charging up a mini-beam, he fired it at Thomas. He closed his eyes, and then heard it shutting off.
He sighed, and then opened his eyes. He saw the robotic giant as it let him down. He sadly walked out the exit. He went up and looked at his score. A 78, not the best, but better than before. The simulation was pretty hard he thought. So turned off his saber, and then stowed it away. Exiting the results room, he entered to see the others.
A cheer erupted from the crowd. He felt confused for a second. Then he remembered the simulation. That was one of the harder ones and most people got under a 50. After that he felt better. He wasn't the best, but he was above average. They congratulated him, and then he returned to his room.
He heard a knock at his door, and he let the person in. It was Amber, a close friend, and the one person that he secretly liked inside.
She was an average height brunette, with brown eyes, and a soft voice. She was also the reason he even got to try this thing. She was his plaintiff when he wanted to get into this school. She helped him so much. Now his heart ached for her, but he knew better then to go and burst out with it. He nodded at her presence asked her why she was here.
"Well I just wanted to congratulate you on your "accomplishment", geez", she answered. She sat down on the bed beside him, and looked at him. He noted this, and then got up.
"Then thanks, for the complement", he said softly. She looked at him with a funny face, and simply shrugged it off. He slowly crept his arm around her and somewhat cuddled her. She blushed at this action then went along with it. She rested her head on his shoulder, and snuggled in with him. He was sweating inside for it would have been embarrassing if he was physically.
She was thinking to herself, if she should tell him how she felt. It was perfect the ambience, the moment, everything. But it was the fear that he didn't like her that she held back. She couldn't handle being hurt again. Not again. So she just snuggled and enjoyed the moment. But Thomas said something to break the silence. He said, "Who do you like?"
He swallowed after the words left his lips. He wanted to cower to escape embarrassment and hurt. But he stayed swallowing his pride in the process.
She was surprised at his question. Why would he ask something like that? "Does he like me?" she wondered. That was the only rational reason to ask. Or maybe he was asking for someone else. Whatever it was, she wondered how she would answer. Her heart was billowing as she thought. She decided to tell the truth to not hold back anymore. So she looked at him and said…
