Room 510 is a good sized three person room.

Markus wandered down the Houdini second floor hallway, pressing the copper key to the room he'd been assigned between his fingers. On the base of the metal object, an inscription read 510, and when he came to the door with the number to match, he knocked lightly, listening for an answer, before he slipped the key in the lock and let himself inside. The room was deserted despite the fact he was told he'd be sharing the room with two other students. He was dying to meet some other kids - kids with powers, like himself. It'd undoubtedly be a great experience; before today he'd felt like he was the only one... a loner. But now, he was just a face in the crowd, one of the many teens like him who resided at this boarding school. Markus stood in the doorway holding his bags and looked around. The room was fairly large with three beds and was nice and tidy. He could get used to this...

Carson bounded down the steps with an determined expression. Hungry, hungry, hungry... That was all that rang in her mind at the moment. As she was about to sail down the next staircase which would lead to the common room, she couldn't help but steal a quick glance down the second floor hallway, and she noticed a boy standing on the threshold of one of the dorms looking dazed. She raised an eyebrow. Cute... she thought to herself, but shook away and proceeding thoughts - it may not be worth it. Plus, gaining the idea to flirt made her think of Jamie. She scowled... why did boys have to be so indecisive? Why was it they couldn't just choose one person instead of experimenting with everyone while there were others who thought they were the only one... Carson found herself trudging down the hallway. She soon appeared behind Markus and leaned back against the wall behind him, waiting for him to notice she was there.

Markus sensed something behind him - a presence. He swung around and had a miniature heart-attack when he noticed a girl leaning up against the wall behind him. She was dressed like a punk rocker... There was something about people with an alternative style that made him uneasy. He gulped and tugged on the collar of his shirt before finally conjuring up the courage to say something to her. "He-hello..." was all he could manage.

Carson gave a small grin, and somewhere within that grin a hint of malice could be detected. "Yes, the room's interesting, isn't it?" She said sarcastically. "Don't worry, you can go in, there's no force-field..." She added with a chuckle.

Markus didn't trust this girl even though he wanted to be able to trust everyone... "Um... yeah, I know... I just... was looking around before entering is all..." His voice faded to a mumble, but rose back up again, along with his confidence. "I didn't even notice you come down the hall. You seemed to appear behind me in an instant... is that your power!?" He asked, suddenly remembering that the students here were all gifted, like himself.

Carson giggled. "Nah, that's not my power, I guess I can just be quiet when I want to be. My power's nothing special... same-old same-old elemental jazz... fire manipulation. But I see you're a 'manipulator' too... what, pray-tell, would your powers be?" She asked, her eyes droopy and lazy as they always were.

Markus was taken by surprise when she smiled at him, and he could feel his cheeks beginning to burn, as they always did when he attempted to talk to girls. "Um... well... nothing special... I manipulate molecular structure... you know... I could..." He said, pausing for a while, and searched around for a small, light object. Finally, he unstrapped his brown leather watch from his wrist. "...Turn this watch into solid gold?" He offered, clearly flustered. "...And I do have one other ability... but I hate using it... it... it's like lying and... and..." He gave up. It'd gotten to the point where his heart was now pounding so hard in his chest he thought that she'd be able to hear it.

Carson grew a bit guilty that she'd caused him to become this embarrassed. "Hey, hey, just cool your jets! Deep breaths dude, deep breaths!" She smiled, warmly this time. "That's cool, so you must be rich if you can turn stuff into gold, right?" She thought for a moment. "Mind spending any of that money at a restaurant or something?" She asked cutely, tilting her head slightly. "May I ask you your name, Mr. Midas?" She stifled a laugh.

"Ummm... no, actually, I'm not rich... my family is well-to-do, but I wouldn't say we're rich..." He replied. "And making money using my powers seems like cheating as well... it just seems... wrong..." The next thing the girl said to him really got him going. He could feel his knees beginning to shake. "Well... um... uh... actually... you... you're close... my name is Markus... Markus McKenzie..." He managed to inform, holding out a jittering hand to her. "I... I should really finish packing today... you... you know, lots of paperwork and... all that, being a new student... tomorrow? Is tomorrow good for you?" He said in an almost desperate sounding tone. "If not, I can do it some other time..." He still wasn't sure if he trusted this girl, but she was pretty, and he guessed she'd probably be even prettier with less makeup. He didn't understand why some girls felt the need to pile on makeup like it was going out of style, and he bet he'd never understand.

Markus swung open the door and entered the room, setting his suitcases back down on the floor. He'd gone home for Thanksgiving break, but now he was back in California. He still hadn't ventured out to explore the school much at all - he'd stayed secluded in his room which his roommates never seemed to occupy. He had two of them but rarely ever saw them. He guessed they were just busy out having lives unlike himself. He'd been far too apprehensive lately, and though he wanted to convince himself that he was content with being alone all the time, he wasn't. He longed for some actual friends. Markus threw himself down onto his bed and sighed. "I always have to be the shy one, the coward..." He grumbled out loud. "Well, no more!" He picked himself up and threw on a sweatshirt, forcing himself into leaving the room to meet someone and actually have a good time that night instead of being the bashful weenie he always had been.
