Everyone wants to be special, even more so since this is a board for teenagers with special abilities specifically. We want to immerse ourselves into this imaginary world, but to do that, and keep things relatively sane, there needs to be a few guidelines. Below, you will find a few guidelines that you should keep in mind when creating your character:
Basically, don't be a Mary Sue.
- Yes, this is California, and most everyone wants to be stereotypical Californian, but think of Oceanside as the only school in the country, in North America, in the Western Hemisphere. There will be a few students from California, but most will not.
- No superhero is so powerful that they can be free of all consequences of their actions.
- Characters should neither be perfect, or extraordinarily damaged. It's okay if a few of you don't have one or both parents, and it's okay if a few of you are really rich, but not everyone.
- Please avoid saying that your character is 'the most popular' or 'the best at <whatever>' These may seem alluring, but they are really ideas that should be earned through the RP, not for being the first person to write it.
Basically, don't be a Mary Sue.
