Tobias's eyes flickered open. For a second he wasn't sure of his whereabouts, but as his vision cleared, he realized he was in bed in the school's infirmary. The school's healers had done a good job of keeping Tobias alive, but he would still need to rest for a full recovery. Drugged to reduce the pain, Tobias groggily rubbed his eyes with his one good arm. His mouth felt fuzzy and dry.
Vaguely, a memory surfaced in his head. He couldn't remember exactly, but he felt like he was missing something. He had lost something. Tobias closed his eyes and let himself rest.

"Please. Please please please please let me see him," Lyra begged to the receptionist who kept an eye on the students over night. Lyra was almost on her knees she was bending them so much as she pleaded. Her eyes watered but she dared not wipe the tears away until she got a final word from the receptionist. "I have to see him," Lyra insisted and her hands grabbed on the edge of the desk. She couldn't find the right words to tell the receptionist. The ma'am looked hesitant, but she nodded and allowed Lyra past her to Tobias' bed.
"TK!" Lyra picked up her pace as she saw the occupied bed and skidded to a stop. She held on the railing that kept TK from falling off the bed. He looked terrible, but Lyra couldn't help but smile when she saw him. Although his eyes were shut, the words spilled out of her mouth. All day she thought of what she would tell him, what she would say but nothing was planned. "I'm so, so," her throat felt heavy and with her thumb, Lyra wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. "I'm so glad you're here...," her voice was weak and a whine escaped with her words. Her knees buckled and she crouched to the ground, hiding her face from her friend. "I was so worried I... I don't even remember what I thought or did today, I just..." Lyra gave up on her words. She freed her emotions through sobs until she couldn't control her breathing. Gasping for breath, Lyra tried to find composure. She stood back up, trying to balance and gripped once again on the railing of the bed. Her reddened face looked at the resting hero. Lyra's lips quivered and she bit her lip, shutting her eyes and looking down at the railing, away from Tobias, the boy who she kept thinking was dead.
