At the Park

[Nefertari Adel]

She looked at Tobias and waited for him to tell them what was wrong, he didn't. Her eyes widened when he started crying and Tari started to freak out a bit when he started laughing. She wasn't good with emotional breakdowns, or anything of the sort.

She patted his shoulder, lightly, sort of hesitantly and looked at Artemis, her panic obvious,"Er, it's okay. Just tell us what's wrong", she said, relieved he had stopped crying,"Maybe we can help, or talking about it will make you feel better."

Vergil stayed in front of Toshie when Rhys decided to look behind him to greet the tiny girl. She gave him a little wave of her own but stayed silent aside from mentioning her name and year as he clasped her hands together and tried to keep warm. There was a moment where he glanced at Ethan as he spoke, directing what he was saying more to Rhys, "Ja, Herr Gehrard und I havf meht vhonce befhor. By theh vhay, how ess yoor hed do-eeng? Bhettur?"

Tobias couldn't take it anymore. He had apologized, but he wasn't exactly sorry. It could have been the lateness of the hour, or the cold night air might have gotten to him, but either way, Tobias snapped. He wrenched free of Artemis and shook Tari off of his shoulder.

Roughly pushing himself up, Tobias stood and threw back the hood of his jacket. His still-glistening eyes were opened wide. "Talking about it will NOT help," he told Tari frenziedly. He shook his head back and forth violently. "Nope. Words can't help me."

Tobias seemed to calm down for a moment. He looked from Tari to Artemis. Blinking slowly, he leaned against the lamppost. "I don't have a shadow," he muttered. Another deep breath, another heart beat. "I don't have a shadow," Tobias said firmly, nodding his head. He reached into his jeans pocket and pulled out the small brown pouch that held the vial that held his shadow.

"This," he said, nodding, "is where I keep my shadow." Tobias removed the vial from the pouch and held it up so the girls could see it. The swirling contents sparkled in the light. Tobias took one long look at the vial...before throwing it directly at the concrete. Shattered glass flew like diamonds and black liquid splattered all around Tobias's feet. He stared at it, breathing hard.

The girl, Toshie, didn't say much, hiding behind Vergil even more. Are they going out or something? I guess they're just both quiet kids, though. I'll find out more about her later.

Ethan seemed to be on guard around Rhys, keeping an eye on him as Vergil confirmed that they had met before. Ethan gave a careful side glance to Rhys, but didn't say anything.

"Oh, my head?" he replied to Vergil, "much better, thank you. All I needed was some sleep." He said reassuredly.

Over where Tobias and the girls were, Rhys noticed something starting to happen. Tension. Was a fight going to break out? No, he thought, But definitely something

Artemis fell back landing on the street when tobias pulled away. She caught herself with her hands but stayed there as he spoke.

She listened to him speak. Her eyes immediately grew when he spoke of not having a shadow. Artemis stood up. "Tobias..how can you not-"S he stopped seeing him pul off his hoodie.

There..she saw him but, no shadow. "woah" She mouthed looking at him as he bursted out telling them. He repeated once again no shadow.

Her eyes narrowed as he took out the small vile he held in his pocket, "Thats yours?"S he asked looking at it when Tobias held it up. She didnt understad, he had a shadow but why hide it? Artemis inhaled as he ossed it at the ground.

"TOBIAS! what are you doing" She sad standing next to him now. She looked to the ground then back up to him.

Tari pulled her hand back and slightly stumbled when he pulled away harshly,"Okay, so don't talk about it, if it won't help", she replied to him, she understood that. All those sessions with that damn doctor hadn't helped her.

She looked up at Tobias when he said he didn't have a shadow, then down at the ground. No shadow, how had she never noticed that?

She didn't find that too weird, it took a lot to surprise her after going to Oceanside, but when he pulled his shadow out of his pocket and threw it on the ground, Nefertari stumbled backward and got away from it.

She stared at the black, inkyish thing, wondering why he kept it in a vial. And why he had broke the vial now.

Toshie looked up startled and Vergil's head snapped up around the same time. The entire aura of the park almost took a sudden shift for the worst and the beads on his arm growled in his core, the sound thrusting against the inside of his body angrily. He didn't answer Rhys or look at anyone as he made sure Toshie was behind him still, feeling her hand grip his more tightly. She could probably feel it too.. that musty energy starting to infect the air.

Tobias stared blankly at the dark pool of shadow on the sidewalk. He was oblivious to both girls at this point. The world had seemed to melt away leaving this small island of light from the lamppost behind.

The shadow began to grow. It seemed as if an oil deposit had been struck and the black liquid was gushing out of the earth. It flowed over the ground, turning everything to blackness. Tobias remained motionless. The shadow started splitting off into smaller pools of darkness. Eight shadows total. In perfect synchronization, the shadows awakened.

Claws, fangs, twisted bodies. It was like a waking-nightmare. The shadows flickered like black flames in the pale glow of the lamppost. Wolves were the best way to describe them, but they resembled very grotesque versions. The shadows appeared to have thin, ragged bodies with matted fur, but it was nothing more than shadow.

All eight wolves were about 4 feet tall and 5 feet long. Curved black fangs dripped oily shadows instead of saliva. Opaque eyes focused on the three students within the wolves' midst. Razor-sharp shadow-claws tore at the ground as the wolves snarled and circled Tobias, Tari and Artemis.

Tobias did nothing to stop the creatures.

Nefertari stared in horror as the shadow spread around and grew into eight creepy, twisted...things. They began to circle them and she looked at Tobias, wondering why he wasn't doing anything,"Artemis, can you try lighting them up?", she asked, not knowing what they should do.

Artemis shook Tobias almost violently. He didnt budge. "Tobias..TOBIAS" She called. She looked out in horror in front of her as she watched with her own eyes Tobias' shadow come to life.

"What th-" She yelled looking at Tari. Artemis was the oldest here..f anything happened it would be on her head. "What the phcuk is going one!" She yelled now. She watched as wolf type things arose and began to circle them.

Artemis inhaled, her arms ignighting in flames. "Rhys!" She yelled hoping he would do something. She follwed in circles with the animals Tobias unleashed.

Again she tried to get Tobias but he was unawar of what was happeing. They were ugly monsters. Huge to. She inhaled hoping Tari was ok. Artemis would fight if she had to but...fighting shadows could that be down.

Rhys paid less attention to Ethan, Vergil, and Toshie as he saw from the corner of his eye something happening around Tobias. Masses of darkness were growing around him and becoming what looked like feral shadow creatures.

So he's a manipulator...?

Obviously, the others he was with were on guard now, too, given the circumstances unfolding before their eyes. Ethan, not sure what to do (and no paper to use his power, anyway), hesitantly took a step back.

"Maybe you should take the new girl, home, Paperboy. Right, Vergil?" Ethan winced at his nickname, but after a little thought, agreed that there wasn't much he could do here.

"Just go," Rhys said, "We'll figure something out." He confidently took a step forward. Maybe I'll use that bench over there... As he thought this, he heard Artemis call his name. The shadow creatures were encircling Tobias and the girls, but Tobias seemed to be unresponsive.

Rhys raised his arm in the direction of the park bench and began exerting his telekinesis on it, uprooting it.

Vergil watched as Ethan ran off with Toshie, the girl visibly shaken but otherwise alright as they disappeared down the dark street. He turned back and stared at the contorting massed, feeling a shudder run down his spine and his stomach churn with the growing presence. It was so murky, like a black molasses that suffocated the energy of anything with life.

The trinity knot ring on his right middle finger gleamed dangerously whilst the case on his hip trembled in the slightest. Would he have to..?

The shadow-wolves all let out silent howls in unison. Tobias was still frozen.

All at once, the wolves launched towards the students with lightning fast speed.

Using telekinesis on those wolves probably wouldn't work, Rhys thought to himself. I don't know if I could handle overpowering Tobias' power right now, anyway. He raised his arm higher, finally uprooting the park bench. With a flick of his wrist, he sent the bench flying towards the trio, crashing into the ground onto one of the shadow wolves.

Did I get it?

Artemis saw Tobias do nothing. She was stunned. She ket looking at Tobias, then one of the shadows tackled her. It took her down to hard. "How can a shdow-"S he couldnt talk. Artemis yelled as she ignited a shadow. Soon she could feel it on her able to be touched like another thing. She used as much as she could but nothing ould really work for her. She used wind as much as she could attempting to stand up.

And made her way in front of tair making sure none got on her as best she could. Using sheilds of fire to surround the three of them she began to wear out.

Artemis made the ground shake pulling the park apart, making it split in to. If the shadows couldnt travel they couldnt reach them..right? She closed her eyes as she began to breath heavily. "TOBIAS" She cried again looking at the fou; creats that began attacking. Again another on her. "Tari get to safty" She didnt want her hurt
