Tobias smiled at Melrose. He was glad to hear her cheering for him. He picked up his ball for his second shot. Aim. Fire. Ready. Tobias thought. Wait, Ready. Aim. Fire. he corrected himself.
He went through his approach and released his ball. It sailed towards the pins. It looked good! Yay, 7 more pins down. Not perfect, but acceptable.
Tobias turned around and walked back to Lyra. He sat down next to her and ate a few more fries. That was lame he thought.

Melrose nodded, "Oh, tight."
She planned on saying something, anything really, to introduce herself to this so called "Ethan", but Tobias was on his way back to his seat. And well.... you know.
"Hey good comeback." Melrose grinned wholeheartedly at him.
Please be interested. Geez. Please be interested.

Ethan stood up, it seemed to be his turn again. Oh please don't make a mockery of yourself this time... again.
He grabbed his ball, at least, what he thought was his ball and positioned himself a bit to the right of the lane. If my throw always ends up going left... maybe this would work, he thought to himself as he got himself prepared. Closing his eyes, Ethan took a deep breath in, then out. Once again he slowly ran to start and then swung the ball of his fingers. The ball glided down the lane and right smack dab in the middle of the pins.
"YES!" he exclaimed, expecting a strike only to see that two pins in the very left hand corner wobbled still and upright. "...Goddamnit," he muttered to himself as he waited for the machine.
(ps: Melrose, I think our characters met sometime at the beach at one point... I think.)

Suddenly, Melrose's phone rang. 30 Seconds to Mars, to be exact. It was set to ring only on her cousin, Miles', phone calls or texts. It was rather odd actually, Miles never phones this late.
"One second, you guys." Melrose pulled out the now vibrating and singing blackberry from her yellow purse.
"Ah, Miles?" She asked, feeling rather unsure, into the phone. It wasn't Miles though. It was her mother.
And something was wrong with Miles.
"Okay you guys, I'm so sorry. I have a family emergency. I got to run." This was serious. Melrose's mother wouldn't tell her what, but something had definitely happened to Miles. And it was something big enough to land him in the E.R.
"Look, I'll text you guys later and explain. This is totally rude of me, but something's wrong with my cousin. I got to go." She could feel tears starting to choke her, really now?
Melrose walked quickly out into the parking lot, leaving behind her three bowling pals. When the coast was clear, she zoomed to the dorms at literally the speed of light.
((Ohhhhh! Yeah, you're so right, Ethan! My bad. Oh well, excuse me while make a quick, cheap getaway and add drama to the plot at all the same time.))

After cheering for everyone, Melrose broke bad news. Lyra wasn't the one for bad news, family deaths, or anything that related to something wrong with a human. She couldn't cry. Unless it was an animal then she would be bawling. But she felt bad for Melrose and her heart sank. Her lips frowned and she wished she had the right words to say. But Lyra could not come up with any words of sympathy. "It's fine," Lyra said, "you have important things to take care of," Lyra replied. And Melrose was gone.
Now what? Should they continue bowling? Or go some place else? The game wasn't even complete, but it seemed like a downer.
"I guess... I'll bowl," Lyra said to break the silence. She stood up, stood in position and bowled. 5. She waited for the ball, turning back to Ethan and Tobias before bowling a four. "Dammit," she muttered before taking her seat.

Tobias stole a glance towards Melrose as he ate another fry. Definitely adorable. He looked at the food and smiled to himself. "Yummy, yummy french fries," he said aloud.
Bowling was fun, easy, and safe. No shadow-wolves, no problems. And then... Melrose was gone. A hurried explanation and departure left Tobias confused. "I hope everything is okay," he said to Lyra, once he had absorbed what had just transpired.

Ethan watched Melrose leave with a worried expression on his face. "You think she'll be okay?" he asked the other two. He didn't really feel like bowling anymore, family emergencies always suck and they always ruin the mood regardless of who it happens to. He sat back down in his seat twiddling his thumbs.

"I uh..." The vide in the room was weird. "Should we go back?" Lyra asked the two boys. "I'm sure she'll be alright, Ethan," Lyra said, looking at him. She ate from french fries for comfort food. Lyra stood up, "let's go home... well, you guys can stay and bowl, I don't know... it just doesn't seem right without her."

Ethan stood up, nodding in agreement with Lyra. "I get what you're saying; I'm getting pretty tired too," he looked at his watch to see 12:50 ticking away to more time. "I think I'm gonna go hit the sack you two," he added, "It was fun while it lasted." He waved to Tobias and gave Lyra a hug goodbye. "Thanks for inviting me," he whispered into her ear. Once he pulled away, he gave a goofy grin and left waving.

"Bowling, bowling, booowling!" Joni exclaimed as she opened the doors of the bowling alley and stepped inside the huge place. The young woman - as always - wasn't the type to sit around and do nothing, so she hopped up from her dorm room bed, got dressed, and asked around for a place she could go. As soon as she heard the words 'bowling', and 'fun' come out of a boys mouth, she rushed her way down to the bowling alley she was told about. If you didn't know one thing about Joni, it was that she loved bowling with all her heart. And because of that, you could say that she was pretty good at it, too. Not a professional, but still pretty darn amazing. So, getting her size six bowling shoes, she pulled them on, bought her lane, and searched for a ball that she could use without accidentally throwing herself down the lane. It happened before when she was younger, and she was keen on not letting it happen again.

Shasta skipped down the streets, happy as could be and heading for the bowling alley. She'd heard that it was a good place to have some fun, even though she wasn't very good at bowling. Actually she had to have the bumbers up for her ball not to go into the gutter every time she played. It was sad really. But she was bored and she did enjoy the effort of it, which was why she was going. By the time she'd reached the bowling alley she had stopped skipping and started running, skidding to a stop outside the doors. She brushed her tousled hair out of her eyes and stepped inside, the sounds greeting her like an old friend. Smiling she got herself a pair of bowling shoes then walked around, trying to find someone who hadn't quite started their game yet that would let her play. She found a girl looking through the balls. She didn't seem to have anyone with her and Shasta grinned, walking up beside her. "Hi there. You wouldn't happen to be interested in playing a game with me would you?" She asked, grabbing a ball in front of her. It was labeled with an 8, the weight she usually used when she bowled.

After a while, Joni finally found a bowling ball perfect for her. Not too heavy, and not to light, she picked up a six, and turned toward her lane. As she turned though, she was face to face with another girl, making her yelp and almost drop the ball on her toe. Luckily, she caught it before that could happen, and was spared a trip to the hospital. With a huff, she shook out her hair before focusing her eyes on the younger girl in front of her. She was grinning, which was enough to make her smile too, forgetting the almost tragic accident of losing her toes. "Hi there," she had said. "You wouldn't happen to be interested in playing a game with me would you?" "Um..." Joni looked around to see if there was anyone else that she might know from Oceanside she recognized that would want to join them before nodding her head. "Sure! Why not?" Joni said with a smile. "Come on, I'll put your name in." Going over to the scoreboard/name thing, she sat in the spinning chair, controlling the urge to spin around as she had before. "So, uh, what is your name?" she asked, looking up curiously at the girl.

Shasta stifled a giggle at the girls reaction and followed her when she said to. "Thanks" She said as they walked. The older girls next question made her laugh. "Shasta Blake. What's your name?" she asked, sitting in a chair to the side. She examined the lane and squirmed a little. "Uh, just letting you know I'm not very good. I love to play and all, but I've never been able to hit a single pin without the bumpers up." She squirmed again, smilng sheepishly. "Could we put them up for our game?"

Joni liked this girl Shasta. She laughed... alot! Every little thing was funny to her. She didn't really get that, but it was still nice to see someone so bubbly. "Joni," she said after putting in the girls name. "Joni Barker. It's awesome to meet you." She smiled before turning around to start the game, but she face Shasta once more as she began talking again. She wanted bumpers. Oh, how Joni despised bumpers, and their unloved bumpiness. She groaned a bit, and pouted looking at Shasta with a wary expression. "Alright, alright," she said. "But their only going up for your turn. I can't stand bumpers." With a few clicks of a button, she had set the bumpers to come up on the younger girls turn, rather than for the whole game. With a smile, she stood, seeing as that it was her turn. "So, Shasta," she said, lining herself up with the lane, going by the little arrows on the ground. "Do you go to school around here?" One step. Two step. Three step. ROLL! The bowling ball went zooming down the lane. CRASH! It wasn't a strike, but she had knocked nine of the pins down. Joni gave a squee of excitement before turning to Shasta with a smile.
