The two friends had conversed for a while now when Mr. Isao announced it was seven. He thanked them both for their hard work and sent them home with two boxes, one for each, with fried buns and fried taro balls as well as other little treats. They beamed and thanked him expressively before they left with a bun in hand each to eat and talk as they made the walk back before curfew in two hours.

Vergil walked in with Toshie to an Ayumi Hamasaki remix after they had each gone back to their dorms to shower, change, and leave all of their school things. They went to the back room to leave their belongings, Toshie her bag while Vergil left his tome and his wallet, and came around the front to begin their work day. Friday meant that tomorrow they could come or go depending on how badly Mr. Isao needed them. He had their phone numbers, so they were literally a ring or text away. Toshie took the first new comers warmly and seated them as she welcomed them and handed each a menu. Vergil went behind the counter to help make the drinks.

Vergil cleared off a table and wished the group of three a good day, taking notice now of the tip under one of the cups he lifted onto his tray. He was always surprised when he received a tip for some reason. Pocketing into his apron, the song going on it the shop changed.

Finally done with the school week, Rhys thought in relief. He walked through the door of the tea shop and took the first open seat he found at a small table and looked at the menu.

Toshie had approached Vergil and asked him to take the new comer sitting in her section as a favor, leaving to go get her order for the group of five sitting in a corner. He looked around and spotted Rhys, the only person without a drink or anything yet, and deducted this was him. Approaching furthered recognition of his school mate, "Herr Gehrard, vilkommen."

While looking at the menu, a familiar German accent greeted him. He looked up and saw that it did indeed belong to Vergil. "Danke, Herr von Wulf," he replied with a slight nod. "I didn't know you worked here!" He looked around and saw that Toshie was also there, but far away. As was probably best for now.
"May I have a Taro milk tea, bitte?" Rhys said, turning his attention back to Vergil.

"Ja, natürlich. Sonst noch was?" Vergil wrote down Rhys' order onto his pad and waited to see if there was anything else he'd like, maybe a bowl of noodles or some tea treats, while addressing his surprise, "Fräulein Mahkeenahmi und I both vork heer- seence ohpeneeng day ahlmost."
He was very comfortable at his job and probably wouldn't give it up for the next four years, though hopefully Mr. Isao would be willing to rehire him when he returned from Germany every year after summer vacations were over.

Rhys smiled, handing the menu to Vergil, "Nein, danke." He rested his hands on the table, folding them. "You know, actually..." he started, "I'll have an eel rice bowl." He complimented Vergil on having the job, expressing how he kinda wished he had one, too. Extra money is always nice, after all.

Vergil accepted the menu and wrote down the last minute thought, excusing himself and wishing Rhys a good stay as well as thanking him for the words of approval and kindness. He passed Toshie who was leaning at the counter like yesterday and nudged her with his hip, his friend returning their hello when he came back to Rhys and set down his Taro milk tea.

Rhys thanked Vergil as he set his Taro milk tea in front of him. He took the straw and drank some, taking up some boba to chew, as well. He was glad he'd found this place and that it had good food and service; back home, he'd visit tea shops like this, so it was nice to do the same in Oceanside.
He continued to drink his tea as he patiently waited for his eel bowl.

Vergil returned with the eel bowl and set it gently in front of Rhys along with two settings, a regular one with the fork, knife, and spoon wrapped in a napkin, as well as another that was a pair of disposable chopsticks should he want to attempt to eat with them. "Heer yu ahre Herr Gehrard, enjoy yur meel." He gave the older boy a warm smile and asked to if there was anything else he wanted.

Almost done with his milk tea, Vergil came around and set his eel bowl in front of his, along with utensils and chopsticks. "Danke," he said politely, taking the chopsticks out of the paper wrapper and beginning to eat. He added that he didn't need anything, thanking Vergil again for his service.
He hadn't had eel, his favorite fish, in so long, and he hungrily devoured the bowl of rice and the two strips of eel atop it. After finishing, he sat for a bit, drank the rest of his taro milk tea, and paid. Obviously, Toshie and Vergil were busy working, and since he hadn't come with anyone, Rhys left, waving to the two, and wandered town.

Vergil waved to Rhys and thanked him for coming, clearing where the boy had been and taking the dishes back to be washed later. He wiped the table down and skittered over to his own section to go to each occupied table and politely inquired of they needed anything, sometimes bringing more sauces, and other times, having to do nothing but bring the check.

Seven came around and so did the end of the work day for Toshie and Vergil. Mr. Isao bid them both goodbye when they come out of the backroom with their things and they returned it in content chirps, walking back together. Vergil inquired why Toshie hadn't wanted to attend to Rhys but she avoided the question and asked him about art class; he knew a change of topic when he heard one so he allowed her to keep her story and went on an explanation about what Eveleen had taught them today.

Vergil had to squeeze in between people and pardon himself constantly before he finally made it all the way in and up to the counter. Mr. Isao immediately pushed a tray of food to him, gave him a table number, and sent him to work which was just fine with him. He smiled to table three, gave them their orders, and asked if there was anything else he could get them before he was sent off with a no.
