"No, no, no, no, nooooo.." A female voice pleaded at the blinking computer screen. It was open to word, a now blank document. "You have got to be kidding me... of all the times..." With a sigh Daphne closed her laptop. The librarian gave her a dirty look, to which she quickly looked away and laid her head onto the piece of technology on the table in front of her. "I love and hate you, did you know that?" She mumbled, lifting her head from the computer and sitting up. Her bright hair fell around her face as normal, the bright blue chunk popping as always. Her brown eyes shifted around, skimming over the rows of books and students filling the Library. She hated how quiet it was in here sometimes. It made her want to yell really loudly, then run for the hills to avoid the wrath of the librarians.
After a few moments she opened the computer back up, logged back in, and started typing. Her fingers moved unbelievably quickly, back and forth across the keyboard. Her blue jeans clung tightly to her frame as always and a purple quarter sleeved top covered her torso. And to top it all off, her favorite shoes. Bright pink converse, low tops, but old and well worn in. Anyone who knew her knew about those shoes.
After a while Daphne finished what ever she'd been working on she saved it, shut the laptop off and closed it. She looked around the library and smiled, a little deviously. "Time for... some mischief."

Behind on his studies, Derek moved his way into the library, backpack full of books slung over his shoulder. Moving over to the tables, he tossed his bag in chair and sat down. As he took out his books he noticed something different. A few seats over he noticed a girl, with her laptop and smile. It sent a shiver down Derek's spine momentarily, but he dismissed it to how cold the library used to be. Hoping he didn't catch her staring, he continued pulling out his books.
As chance would have it, and pen lodged on the side of his Computer Science text caught on one of his books and ended up launching out of his backpack. Right by the girl he was just looking at. Urgh. This is gonna be embarassaing.

When Daphne had moved to pick up her laptop and leave she noticed the pen. She hadn't noticed the guy it came from, but she noticed the pen fly at her. That was a new one. She hadn't had a pen fly at her yet. She picked it up and looked at it for a moment, blinking. After that she lifted her head and looked around, finding it's source rather easily. It wasn't hard to pick out the boy who'd sat down recently and was pulling out his books. You put two and two together and you get... him.
Daphne put her laptop under one arm and stood. She walked around the tables until she made it to his side. She set the pen down, smiling slightly. "If you wanted to talk to me, you could have just said Hi. Throwing pens... not a very good hello," She was a little sarcastic. Trying to be funny more than anything. It tended to make awkward situations a little less... awkward.

Looking up at the girl Derek's faced quickly reddened. Attempting to regain his composure (while completely failing at it) he stammered, "It kinda flew out and- I didn't mean to- Uh, I apologize, sorry." Putting a frown on his face, he tried to relax and said, "Ah, I'm probably looking pretty stupid right now, aren't I?" He noticed her outfit, it was different from the usual attire people at the school wore, but he wasn't surprised considering the kind of students this school garnered. It fit her though, and she looked pretty. Ah, crap. Another pretty girl I'm acting stupid around. Does this embarrassment ever end?

"Yeah, I would say stupid sums it up pretty well," Daphne said, smiling softly and chuckling. "Here's your pen back, by the way. Next time you try it though, I would make it a little less obvious who it was. Totally ruins the whole 'mysterious pen throwing thing.'"

Derek sighed and smiled sheepishly. Taking the pen back, he joked, "Perhaps next time I'll try to rebound it off the ceiling then duck behind one of these bookcases." Relaxing and leaning back, he started to twirl the pen between his fingers. "You know, I don't think I've seen you around here. Name's Derek. And you are?" As he waited for a reply, her laptop caught his eye. It obviously wasn't new, and judging by the screen size it wasn't a weak one either. Maybe he'd ask her if she knew her tech later. Start with names first Derek.

"If you could actually pull that off you could probably pick up any girl. Well, at least any girl with half a brain to realize how awesome that would be," Daphne went on, smiling again. She noticed the books he'd pulled out, mostly freshman one's. That probably explained why they hadn't met before. "I'm Daphne. And judging by your books you're a year under me. That probably explains why we haven't met before," She explained, looking around for a moment. "Well, that and I'm sort of a recluse. Just a little. I mean, that could have something to do with it. Couldn't it? Well, if you weren't a freshman it would. But you are a freshman. Aren't you?" Great. Now she sounded like the stupid one. Rambling on like that. Sometimes her brain got the best of her.

Derek laughed. Perhaps he'd practice that move a little later on. Or maybe not. When she started to ramble, Derek simply nodded. He was a freshman though I should be a junior. Shrugging, he said, "Yeah. I did just get to this school, so a freshman I am. Though I rarely feel like it. I mean school is one thing, but there are times when I feel too old to be a freshman. Might have something to do with being sixteen." If only my uncle didn't burn my documents, I might of been able to convince the headmistress I should be a junior. Shaking the thoughts out of his head, he commented on her statement, "A recluse? A cute girl like you being a recluse? I could hardly believe that."

A light blush rose to her cheeks and she looked away from him. Boys were definitely not her forte. Especially ones that thought she was cute. "Well. Most people bug me. Or think I'm nuts. It's usually either or. Haven't met many people in between. It sort of comes with the whole psychic super genius thing. You're either to hard to keep up with or nuts," Daphne went on, looking back to Derek now. The blush had faded from her cheeks. Think logically. Don't blow it. Don't talk to fast. Don't say something stupid. Don't- just stop thinking. Just stop. She shifted slightly, moving her laptop to her other arm.

With a slight frown he said, "Well, I hope my lame pen flinging skills doesn't lean me to the "bug you" side of the spectrum. Also, as far as I've seen you're more interesting than crazy, so we can safely assume I'm not there either." Derek shifted his chair, and leaned back while biting on the end of his pen. "And I've had my share of psychic events and tribulations, so I think I'll follow on just fine Daphne", he said with a smirk.

Daphne smirked slightly, looking down at him. "Well, then, maybe I'll just have to remember that, Derek," She retorted, a little choppy. Most people didn't make it this far. "And the pen thing wasn't lame. It was an accident. It happens. I wouldn't worry about it affecting your reputation too much." She smiled slightly. "And for the record, you don't bug me. Yet." She smirked now. He hadn't yet. So far he was actually cute. The pen thing was an accident. He played it off pretty well after the fact. Kept up with her. That was always a bonus.

Derek smiled. He laughed, "I think I couldn't ever go outside again if a pen was the cause of my reputation's demise." Though that'd be a story for the books. His eyes shifted back on to the laptop. "You know, I haven't many people here with actual technical prowess. Most people I meet think their monitor is their computer. Judging on your laptop, I'm inclined to believe that's not the case with you. Right?" He hoped he was right. Last time he talked to his sister Olivia about building his computer she fell asleep.

"Technical prowess is my middle name," Daphne said, smiling now. "Well, not really. But you get the idea," She added, looking down to the computer in her arms. "This this is like my best friend. I love him, hate him, and he never leaves me," with a chuckle she looked back to Derek. "I don't think I could talk to someone ever again if I found out they thought their monitor was their computer. I think that's officially crossing a line for me." Bonus points. Boy who knew computers. She had a system of grading people in her head. He just got an extra star.

Chuckling, Derek said, "I could say the same thing about my desktop. Custom-built with the finest parts money can buy." And with some that money can't normally buy. Computers were pretty much the only thing that kept him company when he lived on his own, so he completely understood how Daphne felt. "I've wanted to yell at people like that, but I try to restrain myself for it. So, what do you have on it? Windows, a Linux distro, or perhaps a custom built OS?"

"I have a whole set up back home. Desktops, multiple screens and all. It's pretty much been my pet project for like...ever. This little guy is just for my amusement at school. Windows on him. My boys at home are all custom. I've been trying to design my own fully functioning OS. Just taking a little longer to figure out all the coding than I had hoped. Not to mention trying to make it compatible with all these programs built for Windows and Mac." Daphne explained, smiling. Talking about computers for her was like talking about clothes and make up for most girls. It was nice to meet someone who actually understood what she was talking about.
