Leisurely walking along the beach, Jayden spotted a girl lying on the ground. She looked familiar. Approaching, he realized who it was. "Hey Lyra," he called while walking toward her.

Lyra opened her eyes, hearing her name called out. She lifted up her sunglasses and squinted her eyes. "Oh, hey!" Lyra put her sunglasses back o n and waved to Jayden, "how's it going Jayden?" Lyra asked.

He shrugged as he sat down beside her. "I don't know. I've been pretty bored, so I was just walking around the streets like a loner," he said, chuckling to himself. Well. He was pretty much a loner anyway. "So what about you?"

"Just relaxing, I need to," Lyra said, now sitting up straight rather than lying down. "You shouldn't be alone all the time. Just text me if you ever want to hang out," Lyra said. She took out the umbrella and opened it, putting it behind her to provide shade for her and Jayden.

Lyra and Ethan finally made it to the beach. Lyra stopped on the final step of the boardwalk before stepping on the sand. "That's the problem with gladiators," Lyra said as she bent over to take off her sandals, "sand sneaks in and it's uncomfortable," she said. Lyra rolled up the sleeves of her red and black plaid button-down, maybe she would take it off and use it as a beach blanket. She should of stopped by her room to get a beach towel.

Ethan shrugged and began to take off his worn-out converse. "Nothing beats having shoes filled to the brim with sand if you ask me!" he said, "So, you're from Vegas?"

Lyra laughed a little at Ethan's comment. She tried to think of something witty to reply with, but she couldn't think of anything. "Yes, I am from Vegas. Um, the one in Nevada, not New Mexico," she said as a disclaimer. For some reason people asked her which Las Vegas she was talking about... it was weird. "What about you Ethan, where are you from?"

"There's a Las Vegas in New Mexico... huh, never knew that." He said as he felt his feet sink into the sand. "Me? I'm from San Diego, so I really do enjoy the beach." Ethan kicked up some sand as he walked against the shoreline. Aw crap... I don't know what to talk about again... he thought to himself as the silence began to fill the air.

"San Diego? Wow that's pretty fancy. The beach is nice, it's not like a desert," Lyra said, holding her gladiators at her side. She followed Ethan to the shore and started to kick the water. "When I was younger, I didn't know how to spell desert, but then my teacher told me a trick like... um" she tried to remember how it went, "the dessert melted in the desert and lost an s... something like that," Lyra shook her head and smiled cheesily, "and that's my cool story," she said.

The ebbing tide began to get at Ethan's pants but he didn't really care if they got wet at the moment. "I can't even fathom living in a desert," he cringed at the thought at being in a place so dry. "Haha, I had that problem too. Don't really remember the little diddy that my teacher would tell us. Something like: do you want one desert or two desserts?" Ethan began to ramble a bit as he tried to remember what exactly it was his teacher used to tell them.
"Ah, uhm anyway," catching himself blubbering on about the two words, "How are the classes here?"

"I like that one! That one is cute," Lyra pouted her lips. Her dessert/desert spelling story was lame compared to his. "Uh, the classes," Lyra looked up at the sky and frowned, her teeth showing as she tried to think. "You have your core academics, math, reading, history, some electives, but you also have your uh... special, classes," Lyra winked at Ethan, hoping he'd catch her drift on what she meant by special classes. He wasn't dumb, she was sure he would understand. Lyra shrugged, "it's school."

"Ahh, I see." he said, understanding what she meant and winking back. "I guess school will always just be school, nothing too exciting about it." Ethan kept on walking and put his hands into his pockets, "So what else do you want to do? It's not like we brought swim suits out. Besides that the water would be freezing."

"Well you aren't the one for karaoke, soo..." Lyra's voice died out as she thought about what to do. "I'm a pretty frugal person, so, well, karaoke isn't free, anyways," Lyra walked closer to the water and jumped back- Ethan was right, the water was cold. Waves started to crash against the water, soaking Lyra's legs. "Oh! I never asked you!" Lyra felt silly for forgetting a question. She walked closer to Ethan so she could whisper to him, "what's your talent?" she asked.

Ethan stopped in his tracks, the water crashing against his already soaked pant leg. "Well.. I don't really know how to-- It's like-- Hrm..." he grumbled as he tried to search for the right words. Lightbulb! He had a better idea than trying (and failing miserably) to explain it to her. "Would you like to see?" he said as he dug through his messenger bag for his sketchbook and a pencil. He ran up to a more dry area and took a seat, setting himself up.
"Tell me something you'd like for me to draw right now. Try not to say a person though." Ethan looked up at Lyra with a squinty smile.
