The middle of the grounds was dominated by a large courtyard of neatly trimmed grass, gravel paths laid out here and there, and the usual benches and lamp posts. Several of the grass mounds were punctuated by large trees.
Rhys walked along the gravel in the moonlight, reminiscing about his last visit months earlier. The night was silent except for his footsteps. He stood in the middle of the courtyard and gazed up at the stars, absently thinking about the school.

Artemis yet again couldnt sleep. Her and her damn nightmares. She had yet to really walk around the school since she had returned from England. So she figured thats what she would do. It was slightly chilly but she changed the wind slightly to make the breeze a bit warmer. Finding herself wandering the courtyard she stopped hearing footsteps. Snapping her head up she moved further through the dark snapping her fingers to start a small flame as she saw a semi familiar face. Who was that? Her eyes narrowed as she stepped closer. "Ry-" She stopped not really wanting to cause attention to her in case it wasnt him.

Head tilted back, Rhys stared at the sky, looking past the stars and focusing on the black surrounding them as he remembered his old friends. Toshie, Tari, Anna, Vergil, ... others he couldn't quite remember. The memories of their names and faces were fuzzy for some reason. Rhys was concentrating so hard on his thoughts that he didn't quite notice the footsteps of the girl walking towards him. As she got closer, though, another name slowly came to mind. As it did, he turned his head to look at her and, despite the slight fuzziness in memory, called her name as he recognized her.
"... Artemis. Hey, there. Long time no see, I guess, how've you been?"

She blinked a few times as she heard him say her name. Whoo she was right it was Rhys. Wow. How long had it been since she saw him? Like forever. She waved as she stepped closer to him. "Wow Rhys its been a while" He said as she came right up and gave him a small warm quick hug. Stepping back she smiled nodding. "Im good" Missy told him her accent still thick. "How uh how have you been?" She asked him as she looked at him. She had to think to herself. The night was in a way like how they had first met right? Out in the courtyard. He smiled inwardly.

Rhys returned Artemis' short hug and smiled lightly as they became re-acquainted. It had been so long but she was just as he seemed to remember, accent and all.
"I've been good," he replied, "... travelling. Sorry for leaving so suddenly," he added, making a joking frown. As with his friends' names and faces, he was having trouble remembering why exactly he left, but played it off with a light shrug. "How've things been around here? I feel so... out of touch," he laughed.

Artemis nodded as she clasped her hands behind her head stepping back looking up to the stars as she spoke. "Yeah you sort of just poofed on us. But then again I sort of did as well." She shrugged turning her attention back down to him. Inhaling she looked up to him.
She nodded with a small smile. She was glad to hear he was doing good."Well as long as you had fun yeah?" She said shifting on her foot."Things here?" She shrugged looking around. The school was a bit dead. No real action...Perhaps she could start some up. Maybe he would want to help. SHe shrugged off the thought. "Its been...quiet. We have a few new students."

"I guess you could say fun," he said, putting his cold hands in his jacket pockets, staring off at a tree behind her. He fidgeted with a pen in his right pocket. My mind is running into so many blanks he thought off-handedly. "Well, new students are always nice, I suppose. Depends on how much trouble they've been getting in," he said groggily.
Pulling back his left sleeve, he read quarter til one in the morning on his watch. He anticipated tomorrow to be a busy day, what with his coming back and all. He bid Artemis good night before heading off to where his room presumably still was.
"I've gotta tuck in for now, but let's talk some more later, yeah? It was good to see you again," he said, giving her a short hug before walking off, the sound of gravel marking his foosteps.

Derek walked along the courtyard, with a grim face. The memories, the dreams, they made his head burst in pain. Breathing in he closed his eyes and the scene continued. A shield surrounded his body, inches off his body. The rocks slammed against the blue shield, as Derek moved as best he could underground. He couldn't leave Olivia. Not now, not at the edge of death, not ever. Finding himself in the stairwell, he couldn't keep his shield up much more. Gasping, he let it down, and used his energy to maneuver himself down, dodging-
Derek gasped and opened his eyes. His head was throbbing. Breathing deeply, he took in his surroundings. Leaning back on a fence, he kept a grim look. Would he ever be able to face his memories?

Rhys strolled aimlessly about along the dirt path of the courtyard. The moonlight shone down through the trees, lighting his way. He put his jacket's collar up, adjusted his scarf, and shoved his hands back into his jacket pockets.
He didn't quite know why, but there he was, waiting.

Derek was walking out by the courtyard and noticed Rhys. Walking up to him with an imperceptible nod, but it was enough to convey a greeting. He exhaled, watching his breath vanish into the night. He wasn't sure why he was out, but he was. But something seemed to bubble inside him, a question. Derek wasn't sure but he suddenly exclaimed, "Have you ever heard of roleplaying?"

Rhys saw Derek out in the courtyard as well and waited for him to approach. He was a bit taken aback by his sudden question, as out of place as they seemed to be in the courtyard at this ungodly hour (and in the middle of winter break, no less), but he thought about.
"Role playing... yeah, when you act as someone else, right? What about it?" he responded.
Maybe he wants to try it he thought

Derek just shrugged and looked up at the stars. "I don't know, I've always been curious. Acting like someone else, it's just feels... fun." He chuckled as he flipped out a cigarette and lit it smoothly. He was getting too good at that. "I mean, who wouldn't want to pretend they were someone else." Grabbing the cigarette between his fingers, he waved it around and explained, "I mean, imagine if you could play a life that was normal, instead of this crazy world we live in."

Rhys chuckled at the idea of a normal life. Where would he be, he wondered. He pulled out his own pack of cigarettes, Camel Turkish Royals, and lit one.
"I think I'd like to live in Vegas if I had a normal life. Maybe play the violin or something. What about you?"
Rhys laughed again at the thought. It was just so weird to think about what a normal life would be like, considering the kind of life that he lived now. Maybe in some alternate universe, he thought, another him existed.

Derek placed the cigarettes between his lips and chuckled. "I think Seattle is more of my city. Things seem pretty chill there. Perhaps I could work in technology or something, maybe go the university." The more he thought about it, the more it appealed to him.
It'd be such a different life, but one he wouldn't mind living. "To be someone I'm not," he muttered as he let sparks dance over his hand. "I wouldn't mind to pretend," he laughed.

Rhys exhaled and watched as his cigarette smoke floated away in the light breeze. He watched the ember on the end of his cigarette for a little while, thinking.
"I think psychology would be more my thing. If we were normal," he laughed. "Maybe we'd have different names, too." He looked at Derek and tried to imagine an alternate name for him.
"You could be Carlo or something, I think."
