Lyra entered the practice room, waiting for Tobias to arrive. While waiting, she put on her fighting gloves to protect he knuckles. She wore the same outfit she had on during track. She wore a purple sports bra and black shorts. She looked at the clock, hoping Tobias would arrive soon. She enjoyed fighting with him the best, even though she never actually fought him. Shadow fighting was fun.

Out of breath, Tobias came into the practice room and smiled as he saw Lyra. "I'm so sorry, I forgot all about sparring with you. I ran over here as fast as I could," he told her, hoping she wasn't mad.

Lyra's face lit up when she saw Tobias enter, but that expression immediately dropped when he said he forgot. "You forgot?" Lyra raised her eyebrows and shook her head. She bit her lip and let out a sigh, "Toby..." she put her hands on her hips and tapped her foot, feeling like punching him in the face, but he didn't let her down. "Well luckily I texted you," she said, clearly irritated. Lyra moved over to the light, "where were you exactly?" Lyra asked.

"I was out with Artemis and I met some new people," Tobias replied. He gave Lyra a smile, hoping she would forget about being mad. "So are we going to do this or not?" he taunted.

"What the hell Toby?!" Lyra clenched her fists and jumped up, pretending to throw a punch at Tobias but too far to actually hit him, unless she had stretch powers. "What did you do about your shadows?" Lyra asked him. "You were careful right?" If it was anything about Tobias she worried about was people noticing his no-shadow.

"Calm down Lyra. You're acting like my mom or something," Tobias muttered, looking at the ground. "No one noticed that my shadow was missing."

"Stop telling me I act like Mrs. Knight..." Lyra whined and crossed her arms. Her lips pouted as she looked off to the side. Maybe she was the only one who looked at shadows. Lyra uncrossed her arms and rolled her shoulders. "Alright, let's start," she said. "Don't worry about using your shadow, just use mine."

"I hope your shadow is a bit more friendly than the last time I tried this," Tobias remarked. He didn't like using other people's shadows, but Lyra was his friend and her shadow was the next best thing after his own. "Here goes," Tobias said concentrating on Lyra's shadow.
Lyra's shadow suddenly became as dark as a night devoid of moonlight. It detached itself from Lyra and slowly began to move on its own. The shadow resembled a black, oil-like fluid. It pooled into a circle then began to rise off the ground. As it gained height, the shadow became more solid and began forming limbs, a torso, and eventually, a head. Once the animation process had finished, the shadow appeared as an exact copy of Lyra, but it was still completely black. The outer coating of the shadow gleamed in the light.
As the shadow had formed, Tobias felt the cold and alien mind of Lyra's shadow begin to mingle with his own. He grimaced and a shudder ran through his body. It was always a jarring experience to manipulate a shadow, especially after a long time of not using his powers. Tobias shook off the feeling and started to send the shadow orders to make sure he was in control.
Lyra's shadow took a few steps forward, hopped up and down, and swung its arms.
Tobias nodded to Lyra and said, "Looks good, I think I got it."

"I hope so too," Lyra replied to his comment. She'd rather have Tobias use her shadow then his own, knowing that his personal shadow wasn't the best use. And in all honesty she was frightened something bad would happen to him. Lyra looked down, watching her shadow disappear and form right before her eyes.
She jumped a little before planting herself on the ground, her left arm extending to jab to the chest. She hesitated- not sure of what to do and fear that hurting her shadow might hurt her.

Tobias told Lyra's shadow to fight and then gave it some room to fight on its own. Tobias remained in control the shadow and would step in if it tried to do anything dangerous.
Lyra's shadow didn't even flinch as Lyra hit it. Instead, the shadow turned its lifeless gaze to Tobias and slowly nodded. Without warning, the shadow flipped backwards and created shadowy claws from its fingers. It lunged at Lyra, but stopped short. One deadly claw remained an inch from Lyra's face.
Tobias stood firmly with one hand extended towards the shadow, ordering it to stop. He hadn't expected such an attack and was lucky to have been able to stop it. Sweat formed on his brow and his breathing was already labored. He forced the shadow to retreat a few feet away and return its hands to normal.

Lyra jumped backwards and her back leg skidded behind her and she knelt down to help stop herself. Her eyes widen and she started to pant in panic, swallowing hard as she froze in fear. She stared at the claw, trying to move, trying to speak but she was stuck.
Her eyes started to water up and she found the strength to stand up once the shadow retreated. Lyra wiped her eyes with her arm. "What the hell was that Toby?" Lyra looked at him, stepping away from the view of the shadow. Her voice raised but she tried to calm down, not wanting to ruin the spar or have Tobias feel bad.

"I-I didn't think it would do that if I let it have some freedom," he stammered. He cursed himself for not being prepared. "I'm sorry Lyra, it won't happen again. I'll use the shadow puppeteer technique so it doesn't attack you like that again," he told her. Tobias focused again on the shadow and suppressed its cold, calculating mind. Once he had it firmly under his control he moved around. The shadow copied his moves exactly. He punched the air a few times as a final check and the shadow followed his movements. "Okay, want to try again?" he asked Lyra.

"Of course," Lyra said, her smile returning back to her. "I'm glad you are up for it!" she said. She got back into stance and waited for Tobias' okay. As much as she wanted to watch him fight , she knew she had to focus on the shadow because that was the one doing physical harm. Lyra admired Tobias' art. She never seen anything like it. Except when it all went to shit. Then she got frustrated.
Lyra moved close to the shadow, throwing in a punch and retreating her arm back and lifting up her right leg before it moved higher to kick the shadow's chin upwards. Once her foot came down, she pivoted back before attempting to kick again.

Tobias and the shadow, now connected, stumbled back. Tobias's vision blurred from the attacks, but he recovered.
The shadow blocked the next few attacks from Lyra and then jumped back to create some breathing room.
"I think you've gotten faster," Tobias called out to Lyra. He smiled at her. "Those hits hurt you know."

Lyra attempted to counter the blocks but she had to admit that Tobias was getting faster too. "Same to you," Lyra bent over slightly, her hands on her knees and looked over at Tobias, panting lightly. "When you're connected do you get hurt?" Lyra asked, standing up straight now. She had second thoughts, maybe Tobias shouldn't have connected to her shadow.
